Greg Millen has Passed Away
It is with heavy hearts we share the sudden passing of Greg Millen today. He played 14 seasons between the pipes in the National Hockey League for six teams: the Pittsburgh Penguins, Hartford Whalers, St. Louis Blues, Quebec Nordiques, Chicago Blackhawks, and Detroit Red Wings. Over his NHL career, Millen appeared in more than 600 regular-season games.
After retiring from professional play, Millen transitioned to broadcasting. He began by covering the Ottawa Senators during their inaugural season in 1992-93. His broadcasting career includes roles as a colour commentator for CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada and the NHL on Sportsnet, where he worked alongside Hockey Night in Canada Greats Bob Cole, Harry Neale, Don Cherry, Ron MacLean and Jim Hughson. Greg worked with our NHL Alumni Executive Director Glenn Healy where both served as analysts and were part of the same Hockey Night in Canada broadcast team.
He was known and loved by all in the broadcasting world! Millen has covered three Olympic Games, two World Cups of Hockey, twelve Stanley Cup finals, and twelve NHL All-Star games.
In 2014, Millen earned a master’s degree in leadership from the University of Guelph. He was involved in leadership character development, working with the Seattle Kraken and various corporations. Additionally, he taught leadership at Fleming College in Peterborough.
Millen is married and has four children.
Our deepest thoughts and prayers are with Greg’s family at this very difficult time.

So sad. He was calling games for Flames regularly for a good chunk of this season earlier. I had noticed that Kelly had taken over(including a Saturday game which is rare), but didn't think much of that.
Awful news. RIP.

Wow that's shocking. Was wondering why he wss not doing Color for Saturday's game. He really grew on me as he did more Flames games.
Rest in Peace and condolences to his family.

Jeez, that's awful. Too young, the Flames broadcasts coming up are going to be tough to watch as they try and remain composed.

I believe the last game he did was March 14th vs the Avs.
Kelly has done all the non-Amazon games since outside of Harnarayan/Garret this past weekend.
