Are there good deals to be had? I've been there in the past and have not been overly impressed...mind you that was probably 4 or 5 years ago and I usually ended up there early evening when all the good stuff was gone.

I've got the chance to go on Friday and avoid the line and all the BS that comes with having 1000 people in the building, but I'm just wondering if it's worth it?

I'm not really looking for anything in general but would like a new everything if the price is right.

It's been my experience that the prices advertised at these sales can often be "negotiated" in store at any other time.

There may be deals to be had, but it helps to know prices. For example, a Sport Chek sale is often regular retail price somewhere else.

Don't be afraid to play one store against another when looking for a deal.

I've done OK there in the past, but you have to do your research ahead of time and know your prices, and be willing to walk away if you don't get the price you want.

I bought an Alpine Car Amp and had priced it out at several places that week and before. I went in, made an offer to one of their sales guys to pay $240 ($50 less than the best price I'd found it for). He said "nope, too low", and so I handed him the amp and turned to leave. I got nearly to the door before the guy comes up behind me with the amp and says "whoah there, wait, how about $250?"

Sold!

Its not bad, but study the flyer when it comes out tomorrow. Pretty simple..if there's something you need and think is good, head out tomorrow night and see what they are going for other places.

The really good deals are snapped up really quick...I went 3 years ago, and got $30 cable boxes (not after "programming credits"...$30 out of the store for exisisting Shaw customers).

A couple years ago I went to Visions and got $120 off a home theatre in a box. All the major stores have big sales this weekend...all with big flyers.

Put it this way, none of these are places to to browse this weekend. If you see something specific you need and you deem it a good deal, get there early...like real early, or you'll waste time standing in line only to find what you wanted out of stock.

yay i got an early invite to go on Friday to buy stuff, so no standing in line this year! you can usually pick up accessories at great prices there. Monster cables for like 70% off.

If you are looking for a great deal look in Futureshops flyer. they have a 32" Sony Wega for only $599. I have a feeling that it may be a typo. I bought this TV a few years back for $2400. ugh! talk about depreciation.

Sweet, the flyer comes out tomorrow.

I'd like to go tomorrow too! Soemone want to scan the invite and email it to me? lol

I think I'm going to put a reminded in my calander every month to save for this sale, because I always remember when it's too late. This week I remembered 3 - 4 weeks in advance and only saved up a small chunk, but probably should use those to pay outstanding debts.. sadness..

I think I'll go anyway, I love going and thinking about what I'd like to buy. I'm like a chick when it comes to sales like these

How can you avoid them? because they are solely commision base as long as you are over 10 years old they leech onto you.

Anyone look at the flyer and see any great deals jump out at you? Lots of the big Plasmas and stuff seem quite discounted but those are way out of my range. Maybe next year?

I'm not sure how this Friday thing works, if they offer all of the hourly specials today or what?

Don't buy Plasma, even if you can afford it. The feedback on these tv's isn't great. Picture starts to fade after 3 years. LCD is the way to go. Plasma tv's also suffer from burn-in (a station identifying logo "watermark" can cause burn-in of static images i.e. Global, CNN, ESPN, MSNBC, etc).

Bah, I wanted CRT, Rear projection big screens or whatever those are. Certainly not in the mood for dropping 3 - 10K regardless what it "was priced at" lol..

Anyone who scan the flyer know about any of the big screens they're selling, I'm a TV newb and just want something big to watch DVD's and XBox

Then get a Front Projector, Wookie.

The technology has progressed to remarkable picture quality. Downside is replacing a bulb after 3000 or so hrs but worth it IMO for a +100" screen size entertainment unit.

Decent projectors run from 1500 and up. They carry LCD and DLP chips.

You also don't have to worry about image-burn-in with Rear Projection tv's when playing games and you can port pure digital signals right in with crisp clear gaming picture pleasure.

I looked at those at the sale, they were pretty sweet. I think I'd seriously consider getting one and scrapping the TV idea. At the Soundsaround slae they wereplay a DVD on it and it looked pretty sweet.

Any idea what a cable signal would look like? What are they like if the lights are on in the room?

Also I'd be a little concerned with the mess of wires going up to the projector.. well you'd need an output from the amp.. Ummm, the cable, well with digital cable the signal can come from the amp too..

Well thanks for the response skycemen, it's certainly something i'll be looking at inthe future.

I left after deciding to not buy anything, At one point I was deciding (close to buying) a sony car CD player, and 6 disc changer. Dvd player..

IF your wondering how to get a "VIP Pass" to get into the sale early....its suppose to be for family and friends of the employees. But I went to one of the stores the other day and talked to a guy about a tv. He saw that I was interested and when I was about to leave he handed me 6 passes to get in Friday. Been looking for a couple weeks now and know the prices pretty good. Ended up buying a big screen and home theater system. Same TVs at Best buy, Future shop, Brick etc are selling for about 200$ more than at this sale. Funny though, first tv I wanted was already sold out. Also only a couple of the home theater systems left that I wanted. The Salesman signed about 10 payment slips up for people in the 5 min I stood there waiting to talk to him. Hope people dont waist there time standing in line to get in when half the goods are already gone. Also have to go to there warehouse on 32 ave to pick up anything over a 32" tv. At the warehouse it was one truck after another waiting in line to pick up the goods.
