Getting a potential generational offensive talent at #7 is just hilarious.

And then having him come over the following year after teams initially thought he was a few years away at minimum is just icing on the cake.

Well that only took a year for him to come over. Huge win for the Flyers

Philidelphia getting better increases the chances of NJD missing the playoffs

Wonder what that cost the Flyers in real world dollars to get it done.

Kind of odd that Briere sounds surprised by it in his statement. You would think that if Michkov and his agent were asking for a release from the contract, the Flyers would have been made aware.

The conspiracy theorist in me wonders if the Flyers paid for his release and Briere is trying to play dumb about it.

lol of course they did you think a Russian hockey club chose to make themselves worse and give up a premium asset out of the goodness of their hearts?

In an oligarchy like Russia, money talks.

No, but I do think that it is technically against the rules for an NHL club to buyout a player on a KHL team. It would have to come directly from the player to make it legit. At least that is what I was told, but I don't know for sure if that is accurate. Something do with not giving the KHL incentive to hold players hostage to extort the NHL.

It's been rumoured for a bit, but Briere has kept his mouth shut - probably part of the deal.

With the Rouble sanctions intensifying and the country generally declining the KHL is less appealing.

look, you can't prove someone in the Flyers org's brother's cousin's former roommate didn't lose a briefcase full of cash in St. Petersburg, but you also can't disprove it.
