Very surprising but good news. You can argue if he's a first pairing defenseman or not, but he's easily a top 4 guy who's best seasons are still ahead at only 26 years old. This is the kind of long term signing I can get behind.

I actually like this depending on salary. Defensemen typically last longer than towards, he’s a bit younger so the contract may not be an anchor by the end. I also think this means Lindholm is more likely traded.

This makes me happy. Didn't want to see him moved but figured he wanted to head south as per reports this past summer. Young defenseman, wants to be here apparently, lock him up for 8 years.

Of all the UFA’s he makes the most sense to give a max term deal. Hanifin-Weegar-Anderson is a solid top 3 long term.

I feel the exact opposite. Hanifin is overrated imo, Lindholm is way more important.
