I can see the appeal for not locking them up long-term. Zegras is good and a highlight reel, but still has to prove he can be The Guy, I think. Drysdale had a decent rookie season but missed most of last year, so who knows who that's going to affect him?

The Ducks and Sens are taking the opposite approach in signing their young core. Will be interesting to compare them in 4 or 5 years.

I like this too. Keeps the players motivated and lets the team see if they can have success with them. If they do, pay them what they are worth instead of getting stuck with bad contracts.

I agree, Z still hasn't shown himself to be elite, even though he's still quite young. Drysdale will be a star one day, if he can stay healthy for any length of time.

This one I understand, Drysdale was out all year last season. The Zegras one still doesn’t make sense.
