Calgarypuck Prospect Ranking 2023 - Round 23
Welcome to the annual Calgarypuck Prospect Poll!
As per usual ...
1. Rank the prospects as you like. Upside, chances, or trade value
2. I will try and do one a day which should get us to rookie camp range
3. Graduates and/or runoffs will be determined in each case
4. Please don't complain that the polls are going to deep. We go until all the prospects are ranked, so don't vote if you don't want to.

I'd like to see what Nikolaev can do in the AHL. Like Kerins, he ran into a bunch of injuries down in Rapid City. He and Kerins were the two youngest on that team, so still plenty of runway.

Seriously, how is Hurtig not getting more votes here. He's still very young and has NHL size and some tools. Most of the others on the list are pretty old for prospects, and they are what they are at this point.

at this point there is one- maybe two- people I can't make a case for at all, otherwise at least it's interesting to mull over some names- I get the argument for picking young with the longest runway, but I went the other direction with Jones. for sure unlikely to have more untapped upside, but I suppose on the other hand conceivable a decade from now he's put in 400+ games like Derek Grant, and we are saying, not bad for our number 23-25 prospect in 2023

It may just be me but the bottom 10 seem to have more potential than the Flames have had in the past.

Anyone left over Jonesy is crazy to me, decent size, scoring upside. Certainly not willing to write him off yet.

Random comment here, but thought it was interesting. Over the 2013 to 2019 period of these rankings, 9 players ranked outside of the top 20 have gone on to make the NHL:
Lance Bouma
Brett Kulak
Michael Ferland
Joni Ortio
Josh Jooris
Andrew Mangiapane
Garnet Hathaway
David Rittich
Ryan Lomberg
Makes you wonder what NHLers exist outside of the top 20 in the 2020 to 2023 rankings.
