Default The temporary restraining order on David Letterman

A woman in New Mexico successfully convinces a judge there to give her a temporary restraining order on David Letterman after:

Nestler's application for a restraining order was accompanied by a six-page typed letter in which she said Letterman used code words, gestures and "eye expressions" to convey his desires for her.

She wrote that she began sending Letterman "thoughts of love" after his "Late Show" began in 1993, and that he responded in code words and gestures, asking her to come East.

She said he asked her to be his wife during a televised "teaser" for his show by saying, "Marry me, Oprah." Her letter said Oprah was the first of many code names for her and that the coded vocabulary increased and changed with time.

So, this woman is a little crazy, which happens . . . . . yet she finds a serious judge to go along with it via a temporary restraining order?

You gotta love America, where all your dreams are possible!!

I like how she demanded that Letterman "not think of her" in her application for the restraining order. Can anyone say Nutjob?

I don't blame her for being a nut. . . . . that's probably out of her control frankly.

I seriously wonder about the sanity or qualifications of a state judge who would grant this type of restraint based on what she presented. Maybe he thought it was a joke but its not really his job to be providing bonhomme's from the big chair.

well... if anything it protects Letterman, if he can't legally go near her, wouldn't it mean she can't legally go near him?

I wonder if the judge issueing the order simply thought "If this nut wants him to stay away from her, the easiest thing to do is issue the order; as there's no way Letterman will be coming anywhere near her."

I wonder if this is the same person who broke into Letterman's house, and when the cops showed up she sent them away, saying she was his wife.

Oh, and maybe she should just stop watching the show... maybe that would help.

I wonder what will happen in the next phase - where she charges Letterman for violating the restraining order, alleging that he was "thinking of her".

What is it with Letterman and nutjobs? Wasn't there a plot to kill him and other stalkers in the past? And another to steal his newborn baby?

Never heard of Leno, Carson or Conan going through all of this...
