Kids coming out of Entry Level Contracts putting the squeeze on veteran players.

Players are in their prime typically from 22-26. You should pay them the most when they are at their best.

Billionaire team owner complains that guys at the top are getting too big a piece of the pie.

That's some amazing lack of self awareness.

If anything NHL stars are still underpaid relative to their contributions.

The fact that a guy like Blake Coleman makes $5 million per year while guys like Huberdeau/Gaudreau only make twice as much is pretty nutty. He's not half the player, and he doesn't sell half the tickets that those guys do.

That's the way it should be and it's nice that the system is finally correcting itself. For too long, the guys in their prime were getting squeezed because too many players were being paid for their glory days, even though they were well behind them.

22-26? That's news to me.

Think it's still about 24-30 for forwards and 25-32 for d-men.

Hasn’t this owner done this to his players before? I seem to recall ripping on Seguin a couple years ago.

I'd be happy to pay Robertson too much money.

Hopefully his agent is not happy about this media spot

If he wants to pay the more veteran players those salary levels, nobody is stopping him.

He might find his team not as competitive as a result…

Couldn’t think of one of the many Oilers that aren’t half the player yet are paid like it and then some?

Yeah, but that's not what he said. He said young guys putting the puck in the net are coming in and taking too much money. Benn (33) and Seguin (30) are no longer young. And neither are scoring many goals these days.

He's conducting public negotiations with his young stars and trying to grind them down. Seems like a moron.

In other words the negotiations with Robertson are not going well.

Almost everyone in the league compared to McDavid. There are many examples one could use for any team.

If he doesn't wanna pay Robertson, Brad should be typing up the offer sheet as we speak.

And give up multiple firsts? also, where are we getting this cap to sign him?

edit: I assume you think we'd pry him lose for 8.4 a year, which would cost a 1st 2nd and a 3rd

First three that come to mind league wide. Hyman, RNH and Kane.

It's a weird complaint since (Assuming everyone spends to cap) the same amount of total money is being spent

Why does he 'care' if veterans are getting squeezed. This is the same in every sport where the younger players are starting to make the big money (Which makes sense, don't pay for what someone HAS done but what they most likely will do)

I guess if you have a lot of long term contracts locked up with veterans and your young guys now need a raise its an issue - But that's more of bad salary management by the specific team.

Guess you shouldn't have overpaid your vets for non prime years....

Of course none of those guys are worth half of McDavid. That's my whole point.

You just bored and trying to start an Oilers/Flames pissing match?
