icon57 Friedman: Do the Flames zero in on Rodrigues?

on the 32 thoughts podcast 14:10 https://podcast.sportsnet.ca/32-thou...gs-from-paris/

Friedman says he believes the Flames were legitimately interested in Kessel and wonders if they zero in on Rodrigues now

He also says the Oilers legitimately interested in Kane but he thinks Kane prefers to wait mid season to see which teams are good before agreeing to a trade

Kane will have options. When a player has options, they don't go to Edmonton.

I just don’t see the appeal of Rodrigues.

His production on a line with Crosby was impressive but after everyone got healthy he got moved to the 3rd line and literally fell off a cliff.

He’s being way overrated IMO.

May as well just keep line up how it is for now, see how things play out and make a trade to acquire the right guy.

The fact that he doesn’t have a contract yet, makes me feel that he isn’t overrated. He is a serviceable middle six forward option who can help a team with their winger depth.

I mean overrated by everyone here who keeps hoping we sign him.

If it’s for 1 year I would be fine with it but he probably wants multiple years.

I am not a big fan of this pickup either. Reminds me of when Jankowski had 17 goals and 30+pts or Colborne with the one decent season. 1 year won’t hurt but very meh

I think most of us want the Flames to sign him, or someone similar, simply so there is another top 9 option that can actually produce if need be. For the purposes of depth, which is essential when injuries occur.

That's not really overrating IMO.

I th8nk I'd prefer Milano, I think he has a higher ceiling. It would be great to be the team that finds that guy. He can probably be had cheap and if he clicks with any of the top 6 it would be great to have a cheap productive player instead of expensive players who don't produce.

Please no. The Flames don't need a repeat of the Dominik Simon adventure

Give Ruzicka a chance

But he has amazing advanced stats, just like Jarnkrok...

I really like Rodrigues. Gives me Shean Donovan vibes in how he could be unleashed under Darryl.

I really like his motor and think he'd be a strong fit on this roster.

Maybe I’m using the wrong word but I keep seeing posts of people saying we need to sign him but his numbers are inflated from when he was playing on a line with Crosby.

I’d just rather holdout until a better option surfaces.

at this point, the options are few. Give the young guys a chance. Save the cap space until the trade deadline and fill the need that shows through the season

They could go with a 2L of Dube-Kadri-Mangiapane and give Pelletier a shot on the 3L with Backlund & Coleman. Also Treliving used to love his PTOs so its possible they create a little competition by bringing someone on board that way.

Rodriguez doesn't seem at all interesting to me. Definitely not a player worth committing any term to.

Don't sign anyone right now and bank cap for a deadline move. This team won't be missing the playoffs as is and this would give a home grown talent the chance to take that spot.

Just fixed that up a little.
