Default Who Has A Chance From Stockton?

With Johnny leaving it probably opens up an extra spot for young guys from the farm. Flames don’t typically do that though.

I figured Mackey and Pelletier would graduate to the Flames this year. Does Johnny’s move make that list longer?

Valimaki? I don’t think Sutter is a big fan.
Ruzicka. I also think he has a good shot at the main club.
Wolf. Think he comes up when Vlader’s contract is up.

If Pelletier doesn't play a good chunk of games we riot.

It would be an absolute shame if the entire line of Pellettier - Ruzicka - Phillips did not see 70+ games next year

Not sure anyone else is really pushing outside of Mackey

My Dark Horse in camp?

Zary. Comes out blazing like he did last camp and this time stays healthy.

It would be really cool to see Phillips finally given a look. He's been the primary driver for that team for the last three seasons and only just turned 24.

Pelletier is the other major forward who has absolutely earned a tryout. Ruzicka has already gotten a decent look and I'd be surprised if he's not on the team.

I'd like to see all three of those guys in the top-nine. Zary needs another year in the AHL, for sure — he's not close.

On defence: Mackey.

The good news is Stockton is gone and now it's the Calgary Heat playing in the dome so they could well have all these guys suiting up randomly at will to get everybody decent looks and experience. Too bad Coronato wants to finish school, would be good to see if he can fill a gap as well.

It was odd, last year Duehr made the team and then didn’t do much once sent down. I wonder if he can get that form back.

Duehr had a really strong camp but he just doesn't have NHL hands or a particularly impressive shot. He can skate surprisingly well, but he was a bottom-six AHL guy all year long.

Those are my four, but I think Ruzicka has to be a shoe in at this point.

My dark horse is actually Kerins. I know he was barely in Stockton, but I just have a feeling about him.

Pelletier probably.

Mackey I think has a job to lose.

Ruzicka may yo-yo back and forth between the AHL and the Show.

Wolf will get a few NHL games in as a reward, but otherwise will continue to dominate the AHL.

Ruzicka and Pelletier should make the team right out of camp next year. Pelletier might get some games in the A sporadically throughout the year but Ruzicka is pretty much a bonafide NHL forward at this point.

Part of me says, yes, the same four guys everyone is listing.

Another part of me says I don't want anyone from the Flames' farm team to have any success ever. When they moved the team, they missed out on their only and glorious chance to name them the Banff Fighting Squirrels! How could they!

Luckily, I only let that second part out in my backyard, on a leash, during the full moon. The rest of the time I keep it well chained up.

Pelletier and Ruzicka seem to be the most likely. I would say this is Valimaki and Mackey's last kicks at the can and they need to make the jump, but there are a number of bodies competing for the same spot, and I suspect Treliving is bringing in one more defenseman that can pay in the top four. Darkhorse is Matthew Phillips. Without Gaudreau in the lineup there may be a spot for a small purely offensive player, so this is also his opportunity to shine.

Phillips might get a longer look now that we can afford another little guy.
