Flames in action against the Oilers following overtime win

BOTTOM LINE: The Edmonton Oilers visit the Calgary Flames after the Flames defeated the Anaheim Ducks 3-2 in overtime.

Calgary has a 6-2-2 record in Pacific Division games and a 16-12-7 record overall. The Flames have a 6-5-5 record in games their opponents serve fewer penalty minutes.

Edmonton has gone 18-15-2 overall with a 3-4-0 record in Pacific Division play. The Oilers have allowed 121 goals while scoring 126 for a +5 scoring differential.

Hockey Fans Deserve Flames & Oilers Playoff Round

The Oilers and Flames look good on paper, but translating their talent into more wins could be a challenge for both teams in the second half of the season. With Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins leading the way, the Oilers could put up some lofty offensive numbers, but they’re going to need to tighten up defensively. Meanwhile, Darryl Sutter might be forced to move out of his comfort zone and let some of his young talent run free at the expense of veterans such as Milan Lucic.

Seems like a turning point game. Win and it’s points in 5 straight with only one OTL mixed in.

Lose and you beat the bottom feeders but lost to the two teams you’re fighting for a playoff spot with.

Wouldn’t be surprised with OT in this one.

Lucic and Tanev, gems. Light em up boys, might be be the first game I get to catch this year.

Go Flames. Burn the Oil. Someone going to the game needs to take a submarine dive horn for when McBaby and Dryselke are on the ice.

It's been a while, but here we go:

'Twas the second day of Twixtmas and at Saddledome rink
The Flames played host to an unholy stink
A mulletted fan, to the concourse was led
Where a sociopath puppet would mess with his head...

Spoiler!

Go Flames

From a Foanes perspective a win and we are starting to look like than team that started off very well.

From an Oilers perspective they lose tonight and there could be a serious meltdown up North.

Not sure which one I’d enjoy more

Must win game

Season series at 1-1.

Flames were the better team in both games.

Markstrom's been better as of late, I'm almost tempted to say start him lets get him over the Edmonton hump. I would expect that the Oilers will start Skinner, who hasn't looked as sharp recently.

The keys to the game for the Flames

Get the puck deep on the Oilers and work that weak joke of a defense

Agitate McDavid, get him whining and crying about penalties.

Don't take crap from slewfoot Draisaitl. Force him to the boards.

For the Flames

Hubie should have some room to work
The forwards need to come back and close the gaps when McDavid and Draisaitl are on the ice.
Make the Oilers play from behind get lots of traffic in front of their net and be simple on the powerplay.

Looks like the game is on SNW and SNE. Will it be available outside of those two viewing regions?

If it’s on SNE it should be nationally available.

Should be an interesting game. Ultimate test to see if markstrom has actually figured things out or if the oilers are truly in his head.
