Default No (5-on-5) goals, no problem

You might be worried this is same old story for the Flames. Gaudreau shrinking in the playoffs. Things going awry quickly.

But the players are confident they'll solve the scoring problem. It happened in brief spurts during the regular season too.

Smart money is on them getting aggressive in front of the net and making life more difficult for the rookie Stars goalie.

Thanks for the article, Steve, it’s a real pleasure having you here on CP.

I’m not worried that the Flames will be completely shut down for the duration of the series. A save percentage of .950 is simply not sustainable. The coaching staff will have to make adjustments at even strength and on the PP to overcome Dallas’ excellent boxing out in front of the net. And I think Gaudreau needs to get a bit more greedy, he is either passing to players who are less well positioned to score or he is holding on to the puck too long hoping for a pass and then being forced to shoot from a less favourable position. I do think that the lines look a bit out of sync, and I wonder if Ruzycka might offer a bit more on the offensive side than Ritchie or Lewis, when the team is in need of an offensive spark in secondary scoring.

The team will be fine, they hit a hot goalie for a couple games. I will be surprised if Dallas wins another game.

I think they'll be fine but can we at least call it a hot defense or a Flames cold streak? They had 5 high danger chances 5 on 5 last game. That's not a hot goalie stealing one, that's a normal goalie not having to make a difficult save.

If we didn’t have Darryl leading the troops, I’d be more concerned. They’ll figure it out.
