Default will the flames sign gaudreau?

while i was watching vgk feed between the flames/goldenknights the other night, during intermission they interviewed gary lawless which he said the flames can't afford to sign gaudreau..

he also said that canadian teams have trouble in keeping superstars due to the financial constraints playing in a canadian market...

i'm worried the flames may let gaudreau walk....

5 of the 10 highest paid players in the league play for Canadian teams

After that family interview on Thursday I say yes.

He is also going to be next captain.

Always found Lawless to be a negative individual. At least with his opinions. Wouldn't put too much stock in what he says.

The Flames can definitely afford to sign Johnny.

Maybe 20 years ago, Canadian teams all spend to the cap. Financial constraints? This guy gets paid to take about hockey? He should take a look at the top scorers in the league.

As Burke always said you need players to get you to the dance (playoffs), then you have players that deliver in playoffs, i hope this year he finally does the latter and he gets paid.

Unlikely. I think Gaudreau knows that if he wants to win a Stanley Cup, he's going to need to move down to the USA where an American team has won the Cup for almost thirty years in a row.

He is their best player by a significant margin
They have no choice but signing him
Only way Johnny will not be sign is if he already made up his mind to leave

Or Treliving is just an idiot

I’m thinking no. When was the last time a 100+ point 28 year old hit the open market? Unfortunate I believe they will lose him for nothing.

The way I have looked at it is, these guys are here this year and are all-in. Enjoy it. Not concerning myself with the offseason until it's officially here. At that point it's going to a busy, heavily saturated topic regarding gaudreau and tkachuk.

I’ve resigned myself to the fact that he’ll probably re-sign.
