Default Dryer Draft

So my laundry room is always cold in the winter (maybe in the summer too but it isn't as noticeable).

The vent pipe for the dryer is cold to the touch. Best I can figure that's the cause.

Am I better off installing a draft blocker, or insulating the vent pipe? Or maybe both?

I think the things I have seen done are:

1. Install angled plastic vent cover with slats that allows the air to come out from dryer easily, but not as easily from outside to vent. I've seen quite a few missing those angled plastic slats in the past.

2. An additional vent deflector cover that usually curves down at a 90 degree angle. It kinda protects those flimsy plastic slats from being blown in and flexed etc.

my drat order would likely be:

- maytag- big solid unit. good on the half wall
- kenmore - solid everywhere, but speed needs work
- sumsung - a bit of an off the board pick. could be risky or pay huge dividends down the road

Install a back-draft damper equipped wall type termination. Hard-pipe nearly entire pipe run, and then insulate with 1”FSK(foil back insulation, 10’ in from exterior termination.

I think I solved the problem.

I went to Hone Depot to get a draft blocker and foil back insulation. Brought it home.

Cut a larger hole in the ceiling to have better access to the vent.

Then realized the hole in the boxsil was like it was an open hole outside. The draft between the the pipe and the side of the hole was immense.

I returned the draft blocker and foil back insulation, and picked up a $10 can of spray foam insulation. Filled the sucker.

Draft stopped.

It's currently colder than your ex's soulless heart outside and yet the laundry room is fine.

Thanks for the help everyone. It appears the issue was far simpler than we thought.

Lies. Nothing is colder than my ex's heart. Nothing.
