Hello everyone any advice is greatly appreciated
Hello everyone we received notice on Friday October 1st that our school is structurally unsound and our kids will be moved to another school "temporarily" until it is decided what to do about our school, parents are sure it will be permanently closed down which honestly is devastating for my kids. But the problem I and many other parents are having is why did we receive this email the day after funding for next year was secured which was Sept. 30th it seems like we are getting a run around by the school board as numerous requests for the inspection report were meant with we don't make that information public.
I and many parents are concerned that our kids were intentionally put in harms way by the school board to secure funding eithier that or we are being given a crap excuse to close the school hoping we don't dig to far into it. I have written the superintendent requesting the name of the company that did the inspection so I can get the date it was done and when it was given to the school board, I have also requested that the superintendent provide a written timeline of what transpired after they received the report is there anything else that can be done? Thank you for reading this and any info regarding what can be done, have a great day

This is from an outsiders perspective, but it's my understanding that funding is granted on registration to the school, and school boards are pretty medieval in their decision making process to alter any potential funding miscalculations or mishaps. The school probably had no choice but to play the games they did with the school board, to hold a portion of funding for whatever happens in the next school year.
I know of a school where when they changed to 'fighting covid' with enhanced sanitation, it became very clear that the ventilation, as well as the physical standard of the school itself, was sadly lacking. A doctor in Calgary prepared a paper identifying the school as potentially having 'sick building syndrome', which could result in a number of ailments presenting themselves to staff and students. Followed by absolute silence.
School boards are generally not very forthcoming, and the Ministry even less so.

Not gonna lie, I'm not sure what the issue is. Don't mean that dismissive, but hard to really decipher the OP to understand what the problem looking to be remedied is.
Are you concerned you're losing money you paid up? Or that the school might close permanently? or that the inspection wasn't good?

The issue is that the school possibly knew it was going to be shutdown for these structural issues but went through the enrolment process anyways to ensure they got their enrolment numbers and funding first. If they knew before and notified families, the parents and children could have made alternative plans themselves rather than being forced to send their kids to other schools.

Hey the issues is about the timing of the announcement the day after funding for the school district is secured for next year which makes it seem they waited until after our district got the funding for a full school that they have no intention to fix or keep open so all of a sudden our kids have to be relocated immediately because of how unsafe this school is yet they let them go back for one more full day to grab their stuff and say goodbye to the school it doesn't make sense

I do have an update there was an emergency board meeting where the board voted to release the report the vote was 6-1 when the report was released it read more like the school can't be used as an emergency shelter. But there was a discrepancy between the final draft and the rough copy while reading through both inspections on the rough copy it said that short term they considered the school safe as long as the school is at its normal capacity and environment, as long as it is closely monitored and preventative maintenance is done on it but on the final copy on both the inspections this part was omitted

Thanks for clarifying, so it is potentially a case of a dick-move by the district over funding and potentially keeping the kids in the school unnecessarily? I'd be pissed too - what would be the desired outcome with the FOIA besides confirming your suspicions? Sounds like either way the school is likely toast, but just looking to understand. May not be worth the fight?

It is definitely worth fighting for no matter the outcome the school has been top 10 academically for years, it has an amazing staff and support system, and has done wonders for my kids. Many parents feel the same way they have been very diligent and have put pressure on everyone needed we have a great trustee who has been working tirelessly as she has been in contact with me personally, who you can tell is quite frustrated at how things went down and has been in contact with the minister about due diligence not being done. The parents owe it to these teachers and kids
