Default Krejci Retires, Bruins Lose Another Centre

Can we interest them in a Backlund, maybe? Don't see them with the assets to acquire Lindholm unless a 3rd team is involved...

This was reported a couple weeks ago that he decided to retire. I guess they made it official today.

If Backlund still wants out, you gotta think the Bruins are a perfect trade partner. I agree with the OP that they don't have the assets for Lindholm deal.

Does backlund have any trade protection? I think he said that if he leaves it’s to go to a team that can compete. I just don’t see how the bruins are that.

I believe that this was always speculated to occur, and leaves the Bruins cap compliant (barely) with a full roster, more or less.

?

They have the same blue line and goalie tandem as last year. Obviously 2 huge losses at centre, but with some centres they are a good team.

I think the bruins are going to aim higher than backlund. Scheifele is a no brainer but Cheveldayoff is notoriously deliberate in making trades. So it will be a game of chicken between Wpg and Boston. If talks hit an impasse, that’s when the bruins might circle back to us.

Centre is the most important position in this league. Losing Bergeron and Krejci is devastating. They don’t have a single centre that is of the quality of Lindholm, Backlund, or Kadri.

Losing Bergeron was already going to be a huge blow to their 200 foot game, but now Krejci too? I’d expect to see team defence and goaltending suffer significantly thanks to losing these two centres.

Looch went back for a reunion tour one year too late.

Backlund would want out to chase a cup - don't see Bruins as a legit contender after losing those 2 centers.

The Bruins threw a raging party on the weekend but Lucic showed up ready to go on the following Monday and missed the good times

Well, Backlund has to list 10 teams. Only about 4 are obvious contenders. He’d be hard pressed not to have Boston as one of the teams - they are certainly on par with a number of teams past the obvious first 4-5. And he could even be moved by the Bruins at the TDL if things aren’t going well.

Krejci has had such an underrated career. When healthy, his production was always consistently good, even when he got older.

Didn't he also lead the playoffs in points during their cup win?

Get on the phone Craig. Let's get Kadri off.to.the bruins .

Not a fan of this guy. He's a me first player , selfish and we cannot have another James Neal influence in the room. He quit big time on the team last year and I can just imagine the crap he'll pull this year if he doesn't see eye to eye with Huska and Co.

There's NO way he can't see this. I've discussed this a great deal with others and have been amazed how.many others want him gone.

Backlund would jump at the chance to go to Boston as a destination....if he truly does want out.

He would instantly become their most important C even if it was in a 2C capacity as far as icetime goes, would be joining a team that knows the window is closing but still has a ton of good pieces, and has one of the better travel scheds in the NHL, and still has a top5 blueline and goaltending.

They may also be a team that could extend his career at a decent dollar if thats also a consideration.

Im just not sure what they would offer that Conroy and Co. might bite on.

Yep, if anything Boston would be on Backlunds top of the list

I think if the market is as tight as it seems to be and Backlund truly wants to leave, the Flames might just go ahead and get what they can for him while doing him a solid and fulfilling his wishes to leave the city. Maybe a 2nd is all they can get.

I think they'll go after Thomas Novak. I think he's the only one that will fit their cap structure right now. It would also give them a year to extend him. That said, I don't know if NSH would be interested to move him.

Meh, Boston always finds a way, they could be 30 points worse this year and still make the playoffs. Centre is super important but when all five guys on the ice buy in you can hide short comings.
I still expect Boston to be around 110 points this year

Not a chance unless they get Scheifele. Their top C is Zacha now, they lost Hall as well, and the Atlantic is the deepest division. The Bruins need to tear it down.
