Okay. I’m glad they did that. Next step: don’t pay a huge price to keep him and just take the cap space.

Its the only move that made sense if the cost of protection was as speculated.
Doesnt mean he will be chosen though.

Now we wait to see if flames cough up an asset for kraken not to take him. I’m in the camp you just let him go.

good. As much as it might hurt, it was the only sensible option.

With a ton of good players with big cap hits not being protected, I kind of doubt Giordano will be selected. Nice to see him being unprotected though as the cap space will help.

I think Gio will be selected and flipped with money retained by Seattle. That’s just based on Friedman’s reporting.

Call their bluff
There are a lot of high priced and unexpected players being made available
No certainty they take him
And if they do it’s cap space

It’s cap space for only one season. They also have to get to the $70 million mark. I just can’t see them passing on Gio

I thought they only had to get to 45M in the expansion draft...then to 60M before the season starts.
That will not be difficult.

That’s what I thought but my friend who seems to be a religious nut when it comes to cap told me they needed to get to $70 million. I just believed him . Maybe he is wrong.

I could see the Kraken taking Gio and flipping him to a team like the Avs with 25-50% retained for a good return.

The 70M is definitely wrong...cap floor for every team is 60.2M.
Im sure that the Kraken only need to get to 75% of that total with the actual draft though....positive i read that somewhere but maybe just vivid edible dreams coming back to haunt.

They're selecting from 30 teams with guys like Price, Tarasenko, Voracek, Duchene etc all available. They're also in a great position to take advantage of a team like Tampa and take on a contract like Johnson in exchange for assets
I think they'll get to the cap pretty quickly if they take all these big contract guys. I won't be surprised either way honestly
I'm indifferent myself. I love Gio and I'll be happy if he's still here next season, but I think big changes are needed and it might be easiest to have Seattle rip the bandaid off and force the Flames hand. If Gio is out and they bring Edler in, I don't think it's a huge drop off and Edler will come cheaper

Funny...i was thinking that same thing last night when looking at trade destinations.
Certainly a destination Gio would agree to since thats where he lives in the summer.
If Seattle takes Dermott it becomes a lot more plausible too.
