Yea I don’t really understand the Nesterov lineup insertion and don’t really see the need to bring him back next season.
Pending expansion draft/trades:
Gio
Hanifin
Valimaki
Mackey
Kylington

Indeed and if they re-sign someone back there it should be Stone.

So does Darryl think Valimaki has entitlement issues? That's what they were discussing on 960 this morning. I just don't get this whole Nesterov thing. He's proven to be a 6/7 guy but Darryl is playing him like he's a long term entrenched player. So glad there is only one game left of this.

Valimaki's last three games have been pretty solid ... 60+ CF% in each game. His last game against Vancouver he was 70% xGF% and +1 on the night.
Pre-Sutter he was 51% CF% and 52.9% xGF%
With Sutter he is 56% and 56%
Last ten games 59% and 60%
Honestly think this is more about being hard on a young kid that is playing well than it is not liking a young player.
But no I don't get it. I thought that Vancouver game on Sunday has Valimaki finally getting that offensive confidence back again to sneak up into the play; something no other dmen in Calgary really does.

When a young player starts hitting his stride I would typically expect the coach to continue to let him build on that but maybe he's not a great practice player or something or maybe it's just Sutter working him hard in hopes of maximizing his potential. Only one game left so at this point it doesn't really matter anymore and we can focus on the offseason changes.

I wonder if Sutter sees Valimaki's performance the same way during this stretch? I'll bet he puts a lot of weight in practice habits etc. that we just don't see.

His numbers are good.
What I think is bad are the big mistakes, the eye popping ones that gets Sutter commenting on them in post game interviews.
He's steadied the ship considerably, but when he takes on water it's a mess.

I didn’t mind nesterov at the start of the season. But the last few weeks it’s looked like he’s drunk.
