Based on the last mentioned Dec 1 start, likely to be pushed back but you can expect players are told to be ready just in case.
Those 7 teams that didn’t get playoff games must be itching to get going.

A mid-November Camp could line-up with a New Years start.

Most camps are 3 weeks with exhibition games in there. This would be like a 6 week camp if they start in January

I think players who are told to be ready for November 15 camp have coaches/management who are going by the NHL saying they could start in early December.
Meaning that could change and camp starts will change along with it but until they know more, be ready for what they're saying now.

I don't think a mid-December start makes much sense because they would just get going and then shut it down for Christmas.
I would think it's either early December, or wait for post-Christmas

They don’t need to shut down for Christmas. They’ve always done that in the past, but many other leagues play right through.

Most of the teams in the league haven't played more than 10 games or so since March.
It kind of makes sense to start things sooner rather than later. Not saying sooner than Nov 15 - that would be very soon - but in general.
Wasn't that around the time as the early projections for when vaccines would be completed?

I thought it was closer to 4 weeks, but regardless, I doubt they are going to forego the Christmas break and I cannot see them having it in the first 3 weeks of the season. At earliest, I see them starting Dec. 27th. In addition, 7 teams and some other players have not played since March, so a longer camp makes sense.

I agree it will be later rather than sooner. Can't say when camps would open but I expect the season to start with the Winter Classic on January 1st.

That would be awesome, but I can't imagine they can profit off it by limiting it to 20k or so. Probably would end up costing them more than 2k in a rink teams already have leases for.

You wouldn't want to give up the post-Christmas week because attendance is usually pretty good with many people being off work.
Also, you could get a LOT of games in, during that week, to really kick off the season. Every team could play 3 games by Jan 1st. Maybe even 4, if you started on boxing day.

Will seats be difficult to fill since they'll likely be at most be 25% capacity?

My thinking was that if you kick off with a big made for TV event you might draw more interest than usual. I can't speak to profitability or lack thereof. I have no idea if the stadium is already rented out, non refundable, ad revenue could be more for that event, etc. All variables I just don't know enough about.
As for starting during the Christmas break, its not that much of a difference between Boxing Day and New Years. 6 days. I could see it starting in that general timeframe regardless of any possible Winter Classic plans. Again, I just felt a tent pole event made sense to kick off a later season.

That was why I thought New Year's day, Friday night holiday and you could open the season with A Montreal/Toronto, Calgary/Edmonton double header, as this way they aren't going head to head with a bunch of Bowl games in the US on their opening night. Then have the openers in the US on the 2nd.

No chance they do a winter classic this year. They’re not going to go to all the trouble right now.

Yeah - why prepare a stadium for a single game, if you aren't inviting fans?

How is that time line going to work with USA teams coming to Canada? Canada still requires essential travelers to quarantine for 14 days. They eased restrictions for immediate family members but they still require a 14 day quarantine and must commit to being in the countey 15 plus days for the special exemption.
I just don't see the restrictions being gone anytime soon.
