Calgary Flames All Time Roster - 4th Line Left Wing
So some details ...
1. Calgary players only
2. I'll look at games played, production and PPG to list options.
3. My cut off won't effect options as I'll go deeper than required
4. I'll label them by rank (3rd line LW) but don't select the player that matches that role the best, pick the best player.
Day to Day
We elect a position, say 2nd line RW, remove that name and do the 3rd line RW the next day.
I'll post a summary as we go along.
Calgary Flames All Time Roster
Gary Roberts - C1 - RW1
Johnny Gaudreau - C2 - RW2
Matthew Tkachuk - C3 - RW3
LW4 - C4 - RW4
D1 - D2
D3 - D4
D5 - D6
Miikka Kiprusoff
Mike Vernon

I have to go Gelinas for his playoff heroics ...
was Gelinas, Tanguay and Colin Patterson.
Tanguay was productive as hell in Calgary, but just not a chips are down guy. The other two were, but Gelinas won four straight series.

Went with Colin Patterson, though Ferland was also in consideration. My criteria for a 4th line LW is either a defensive specialist or toughness. We already have Roberts and Tkachuk so I went with the best defensive LW on the board.

Tanguay was a significant contributor.
Cammy was my 2nd choice mostly because of how good he and Iggy were when he first arrived. Huselius actually had more points in the same number of games.
I can also see the Gelinas argument solely because of the 04 cup run.

I went with Patterson, as I think he was a great defensive forward, but also an important glue guy and leader in the room. So you add a bit of that too.

still mulling it over. down to 2 names I think. of the candidates that remain, not sure if these stats help or hurt
GP
Glencross 418
Patterson 416
Ranheim 354
G
Glencross 114
Ranheim 94
Cammy 89
A
Tanguay 198
Glencross 128
Huselius 108
P
Tanguay 284
Glencross 242
Ranheim 194
+/-
Patterson 98
Ranheim 49
Huselius 33
PPG
Beers (!) .850
Huselius .843
Tanguay .830
Cups
Patterson 1
Gelinas .99
this is a real tough one- Bozek, Ferland, Patterson and Gelinas are all among the top of my favorite 'non star' Flames. Cammalleri is also a guy I always liked. Glencross and Ranheim are maybe surprise names here too
I think on balance I'm mulling Tanguay versus Patterson

I went with Huselius. Was a big fan of his game. This was the hardest one so far.

Huselius for me. I thought he was an awesome flame, and though he was one dimension (high skill, creative, playmaker), he was better and took over that dimension/role of top line play maker over tanguay.

Patterson is one of, if not the, top defensive forwards this club ever employed.
I find it impossible to leave him off an all-time best Flames team.

If the criteria is most talent, then Tanguay. Most well rounded team, I want a player like Patterson.

This one was a tough one for me. Cammalleri, Huselius, and even Glencross gave me pause, but I ended up going with Tanguay.

Honestly, I really don't understand why Glencross is being considered. The others make sense but what makes Glencross potentially the fourth best LW to ever play for the Calgary Flames.
His career-high is 48 points. Overall, he had 275 points in 507 games (0.54 PPG).. 4 points in 16 playoff games..
When he was new to the team, he actually played like a bulldog and was super hard-working... after a while, he decided that he was a "skilled" player and was out of the league a few years later.
He was definitely a decent player but not sure why anyone would consider him on the same tier as Cammalleri, Huselius, and Tanguay.

well he only has one vote I don't think he's a major player here (Glencross)
I only included him in the stats analysis because he is top 2 in GP, goals, assists and points of the guys left (again with the caveat that really Peplinski would dwarf him in most of these categories)

It’s cause some ppl are trying to build a prototypical 4th line.
Patterson, Gelinas and Glencross make more sense in that scenario.

If the Eliminator gets voted in after Tanguay, we are doing it wrong.

This is exactly it. I mulled over Glencross, for the reason that he fits a 4th line LW position better. But voted on the basis of best player remaining as opposed to fit.
I haven’t seen Patterson play and Gelinas, I only saw towards the end of his career after he was done with the flames.
