We saw Staal's contract as a bit of a hindrance going forward and saw the opportunity to make a lateral move for a winger. We felt that our wing depth was somewhat lacking and needed to make a move. Really like Pacioretty as a player. Staal will be missed but I'm not convinced he'll ever be worth that contract again. Still, getting him for Eriksson Ek at the deadline the year we went on the huge run to Game 7 of the finals will forever stand as one of my favourite trades.
