i dont think there is any question that the canucks are further along in their rebuild than the Oilers. they will also get a high draft pick this year, hopefully not # 1 though.

I think Kakko ends up being the top pick, and hopefully Jack Hughes tells everyone in the interviews that he wishes to play with his brother

I suspect that if the Canucks wish to draft Hughes they will need to pick #1 or #2. If they don’t slot there after the lottery they will need to trade for the pick.

A Sedin-esque Draft Day Redux manuever? Jim Benning is no Brian Burke.

The Canucks are more fun when they're choking in the playoffs.

He'll win the draft lottery and trade the pick and Hughes for a pick and another prospect with the same last name as another player already on the team or in the system.

I wonder if it is because this is not the game thread?

Is his NCAA season done? Seems kind of early for Michigan.

The Canucks just aren't hateable anymore, and this upsets me.

Canucks have some nice pieces moving forward. Imagine they took Tkachuk and someone like Ehlers or Nylander instead of Virtanen.

Yeah, a core of:

Petterson
Horvat
Boeser
Tkachuk
Nylander
Demko
Hughes

wouldn't look too bad at all. Hindsight though.

Hindsight nothing. Skipping over Tkachuk for Juolevi was straight up stupidity.

And for that, we thank them.

That's not hindsight. Tkachuk and Nylander (or Ehlers) were the consensus picks. People knew the Virtanen and Juolevi picks were bad as soon as they were made. Heck even if you subscribed to drafting by positional need theory for Juolevi they still made the wrong pick. The Pettersson pick is obviously a good one. Remains to be seen on Hughes, but the misses on Tkachuk and Nylander set the franchise back. To what degree remains to be seen but I see a roster lacking 2 good top 6 wingers that they should already have and no real depth in the organization to make such acquisitions and free agency is a overpriced crap shoot. IT will take some very good management to overcome those screw ups. So if ownership doesn't makes changes in a few weeks, well, congrats Pacific division you won't really need to worry about the canucks for a few more years yet!

Juolevi was ranked 6th by pretty much every ranking and they picked him 5th. No one thought that was a bad pick at the time.

Virtanen, on the other hand, was pretty dumb.
