I would add to that first line invisible, 3M disorganized, tough night for Brodie et al at the back end.

Coaches better figure this out and soon. After such a good season will be a real shame to see the Flames limp into the playoffs only to get quickly bounced in the first round.

With a bounce or two Calgary wins each of the last two games. I'd say they actually won some games before the all star break playing waying poorer than they did last night.

Andersson was amazing, and lucky. Rittich was unlucky as hell and brutal on the fifth goal.

Chances were 14-9 Flames and that matched the eye test.

Coaches don't need to figure much out. Players need to finish and goaltenders need to stop pucks.

The best thing the Ducks have ever done was if they weren't going to trade him to the Flames to ship Andersen to the Eastern conference. That guy always plays Vezina level against the Flames.

Have to start BSD against the Knights. He has to show bounce back against a good team or he becomes super scary for the playoffs.

In the playoffs there is a good chance that there will be a big score against and the good goalies can just ignore it and come back better than ever the next game.

aside: After the Hamilton trade and the Flames suddenly got so deep it is pretty bad that they did not address the goal-tending issue.

Was there a chance for Price? MAF? Bishop? Rinnie?

Has any team since the 2010 Hawks with Niemi in goal had a good playoff run without their goalie being at least in their top 5-6 players going into the playoffs?

I agree, roll with BSD and see what you have here. We know what we have in Smith which worst case you roll with in the Playoffs but Rittich needs some slack on the Leash here to see if he can get on a roll.

The goaltending has been dog #### the last 2 nights, which to me suggests the tandem is what's causing pressure. Theres less than 29 games leftnot- it's time for the flames to pick a number one and ride him for better or for worse.

There was no chance last offseason for MAF, Price, Bishop or Rinne.

And as to your last question, yes, last year, Holtby. Not even the Caps' starter. Certainly not in their top 5 players

Holtby was their #4 highest cap Hit and was an elite goalie for at least 5 years. He had won 4 playoff series over the last 5 seasons. He was probably 2nd or 3rd bet Cap player behind Ovy and Carlsson

Grubauer was 15-10-3 ... was he the starter... one of the Caps top 6 players.? Then the Flames obviously have no problem as Rittich is likely better than Grubauer.

This is a consistent pattern with Flames goalies. So I ask you: do you believe the goalie coach doesn't tell them to do that?

I believe it. Not only do I believe it, it is documented in his words:

Proof that the adjustment has worked can be found in the numbers. At the end of November, Ramo's save percentage was .899 and six times he had surrendered at least four goals. Since the start of December, he's posted a .930 save percentage and given up four goals in a game only once.

"By being a little deeper in his net now, it allows him to come across his net more controlled, more calm and compact and it's made a big difference in his game, especially in his rebound recovery," said Sigalet.

... Ramo is now up to a .914 save percentage for the season. That ranks the pending unrestricted free agent 27th of the 46 goalies with enough games to be eligible. The only goalies better in the Pacific Division are Anaheim's John Gibson (.926), LA's Jonathan Quick (.925) and Vancouver's Jacob Markstrom (.919).
That article you posted was from 11 January, 2016. Karri Ramo is the goaltender featured therein for the improvements he made under Sigalet for his performance that year. He played eight more games in the NHL before having his career ended by a devastating leg injury.

Those are such weird comments from Sigalet (don't make easy saves hard), because the surest way to make an easy save hard is to stay deep in your crease and have to react to the shot. If you come out and cut off the angle, reacting to the shot becomes unnecessary, it is simply body position.
