A matinee game when the team is slumping. What could go wrong?
Whatever happens, it will probably be a weird game, as afternoon games always are for the Flames. I'm going to say a 7-6 shootout win for the good guys.

Is a 2-1 tight checking OT win too much to ask? Clean breakouts, tight gaps, collapse into the middle if the other team's star forward have the puck, aggressively pressure the points, win loose puck races and battles along the boards. Backcheck smart and hard. Forecheck relentlessly. Pinch cohesively. No dumb penalties. Look competent on the power play and make their goalie make a tough save or five.

I think the first 2-3 minutes of this game will tell us everything we need to know about this team. They'd better come out flying today, or they're gonna get stomped again. No doubt the Caps will be angry after losing to the Oilers.

The team will play great today. Last couple games have sucked but the team is 5-5. Not amazing not awful. I have a good feeling. The sky isn't falling. GFG!

It would be stunning to me if they aren't a lot better defensively than the last 3 games.
When teams get their doors blown off like the last game, it seems almost unanimously they come back with a very strong one the next time.
Will it be enough to win? Hard to say that considering the opponent.
I wouldn't be surprised if it's a 3-2 type game either way though...and probably in OT.

Smith should have a short leash in this game. Against Pitt, he was a paper bag. It really took the wind out of the sails for the Flames. Murray for Pittsburg made two big saves early, which could have changed the game. Heres hoping goaltending is not a issue today!
I am taking my son to this game, hoping to get to see a lot of goal celebrations for the home team!

I think this game is going to get ulgy but we are still going to pull off the win. 5-4 win, gaudreau and Monny stink for the first two periods and get dropped down a line. finish the game running this:
Tkachuk-Lindholm-Bennett
Gaudreau-Monahan-Neal
Frolik-Backs-Czarnik
Goals from: Bennett, Brodie, Dube, Czarnik, and Monny in the third

Seven Things to Watch for Tonight- Mike Smith will tie Ron Tugnutt in games played in the NHL as a goalie with 537 games. That is good for 62nd all time.
- Mark Giordano is one goal from tying Jyrki Lumme and Jerry Korab in goals as an NHL defencemen. Giordano is currently ranked 72nd of all time. To put that in perspective GIo has played 200 fewer games than both of those men.
- Sean Monahan is one assist away from tying Willi Plett .When that happens they will both be 32 nd all time in the organisation.
- Mark Giordano is two points from passing Pavel Kubina and becoming 113th in all time points as a defenceman in the NHL. One point will tie. To put that in perspective it took Kubina 970 games, and Gio has so far only played 764.
- Sam Bennett is one goal from tying Mel Bridgman with 45 goals as a Calagry Flame. 45 goals is the 67th spot as it stands now.
- Mikael Backlund is one goal from passing Paul Reinhart and becoming 25th all time as a Flame.
- Michael Frolik is one assists from a career 200.

I have as much confidence in Mike Smith as Mike Smith does. I sure hope it isn't shattered by the team forgetting about team defence.
I predict an ugly win, none of the persistent problems get solved.

Just sent in $10 for the Neal goal.
I am super embarrassed about that game. Was hoping this year would be different. I'm Not packing it in yet but my optimism is fading fast. That's the first game I didn't watch of the year.
I will donate $10 to CP if the flames keep the capitals to 1 goal or less.
