Which Pacific team to Central?
Edit: whooo boy.
So let's assume for a moment that Seattle is a done deal and goes to the Pacific division. That leaves the question of re-alignment or a team simply swapping into the central from the Pacific.
Arizona or Vegas come to mind?

I would assume Colorado. That's just based on the simple geography of it. Winnipeg is much closer to more of the Central teams, and Colorado closer to the bulk of Pacific teams.

This is what would happen unless they try a different whole realignment with swapping Between the East and West as well

I wonder if a total re-alignment would be possible too. I'm not sure I love the playoff format as is. Maybe bring back the Smythe? Which is really what I'm lobbying here for

Logically, I think Arizona would just move to the Central. Wish it could be Las Vegas but Arizona is further east.

Either I am really confused, or you are.
Don’t you mean which Pacific team to Central?
There is no obvious and easy answer, but I would suggest Arizona.
Especially if they move to Houston, as has been bandied about.
The other option is go with 4 team divisions, with division winners in, and the rest 4 wildcards per conference.

Yes. That way Houston plays with Dallas.

I think the Coyotes are moving to Houston and this will work itself out.

Math would suggest completely changing the format to having 4 teams per division and 4 divisions per conference. That should even out the teams.

I'm not sure if I like that idea though. Then you'll have a lot of good teams missing the Playoffs, unless you intend on having top 8 make each conference anyways.

Just do it like the NFL does, except there wouldn't be any bye, obviously, as there'd be 8 teams, not 6

If the league expands to 32 teams, half the teams will miss the playoffs every year (barring the addition of another round to the playoffs). No matter what alignment you come up with, good teams will miss (they already do).
I think the most-likely outcome will be the Coyotes moving to Houston. Seattle will then replace the Coyotes in the Pacific and Houston will go to the Central.
If, by some miracle, the Coyotes survive in Arizona, then it will likely either be the Coyotes going to the Central anyway; or the Flames and Oilers move to the Central and the Avs move to the Pacific.
Neither of those options is great for the teams involved. Either way, you'd have two Mountain time zone teams in the Pacific Division and two Mountain time zone teams in the Central (although, because of DST, Arizona is in sync with the Pacific time zone for the first and last months of the season and the playoffs).

Dallas would move to the Pacific & Edm & Cgy move to the the central makes the most sense to me, based on time zones & travel proximity

If they were going to move any team from the Central to the Pacific, it would be Colorado, not Dallas.
