Default 2018 WJC Day 5: CZE-BLR, SWE-SUI, FIN-SVK, DEN-CAN

Day 5.

4 games and 5 Flames prospects in action tonight. USA and Russia have the day off.

Games should be on TSN 1/2/3/4/5, tsn.ca, or TSN Go.

Flames prospect stats:
Valimaki 2gp 1g 2a 3pts - Valimaki is tied for 3rd in points by defencemen
Dube 3gp 1g 1a 2pts - Dube is tied for 5th in SOG with 11
Fox 3gp 0g 1a 1pts
Ruzicka 2gp 0g 0a 0pts - 5th in faceoff% with 68.75%
Lindstrom 2gp 0g 0a 0pts - tied for 2rd in faceoff % with 70.59%
Tuulola 0gp 0g 0a 0pts

10 AM MT Czechia vs Belarus
Belarus will play in the relegation round regardless of the outcome of this game. Playing for pride really and a chance to upset the quarterfinal brackets.

It is still possible for the Czechs to finish as high as 1st in Group B, but they will need some help from Russia and Switzerland in their respective games. This game also gives them a chance to pad their stats.

12 PM MT Sweden vs Switzerland
Sweden is the only team in the tournament that can still finish the preliminary round with a perfect record, but still need to defeat Switzerland and Russia to do it.

It still looks like Flames prospect Lindstrom will continue to center Pettersson and Nylander 5 on 5. Has yet to pick up any points from that line though. That being said been strong on faceoffs and on the 1st PK unit. Sweden's PK is ranked 1st in the tournament as of today, running at 87.5%.

Lindstrom will wear #16 for Sweden

2 PM MT Finland vs Slovakia
3 Flames prospects in 1 WJ game? It is about to happen. Word out of Finland yesterday was that Tuulola was officially added to Finland's WJ roster for the last spot, beating out Leafs prospect E. Rasanen.

Tuulola was practicing on the 3rd line yesterday and Valimaki continues to be paired with Heiskanen for the top pairing.

Slovakia is coming off an emotional win against the USA and is looking for another upset victory. Ruzicka has yet to put up any points, but he was on the ice for every goal that Slovakia scored against the Americans.

Tuulola will wear #19 for Finland
Valimaki will wear #6 for Finland
Ruzicka will wear #21 for Slovakia

6pm MT Denmark vs Canada
After the spectacle and loss to the USA yesterday in the outdoor game. Canada is right back at it with their final preliminary round game.

If Canada wins, and they should, they will finish in 1st place in Group B.
This likely means they will face Switzerland in the quarter finals.

Denmark might show some desperation as they try to avoid the relegation round.

Dube will wear #9 for Canada

the CZE-BLR game is insane.

BLR led 2-0 and CZE changed goalies.

Then CZE scored 5 in a row and BLR changed goalies

now CZE leads 6-5 with 5 minutes left

Ruzicka definitely having his best game of the tourney. He has had a couple of good scoring chances and seems to be the most dominant Slovakian player so far.

Sweden beat Switzerland 7-2.

Sweden tweaked their lines and moved Lindstrom down and put Andersson to center Nylander and Petterson. That line exploded for offense. May not see Lindstrom there for the rest of the tournament.

Ruzicka drew a penalty in the Finland game and almost banked the puck in for ensuing power play goal.

Bob McKenzie during the intermission, mentions that Ruzicka is arguably the best Slovakian player.

His lack of foot speed has been mentioned before but for me his lack of ability to make a good pass is frustrating to watch. This guy is a project and I really wonder about his hockey IQ.

Just spotted Tuulola for the first time in the game taking a beating in front of the Slovak goalie

I hate to say it, but Juolevi looks a lot better this tournament.

That is because most top 5 picks are already in the NHL by now...Matty would be tearing this tourney a new one

edit 2: now they give credit to Ruzicka

Ruzicka just scored a beauty.....on his own net off the face-off. Bizarre play.

I wonder if Ruzichka's own goal also counts as a faceoff win

TV not working. Streams not working. Awesome Saturday right now. If anyone has a good option, please send a PM...

Also, is there anywhere extended highlights are posted?

Is the Danish goalie really small, or is he just playing that way?
