The wife is thinking of getting one of those little scooters.

Has anyone had any experience with these? What should I avoid?
She is looking towards a 150CC - 250CC or a 400CC.

Any comments are welcome.

Thanks.

Come to think of it, I might have something useful to add to this topic. My g/f loves that show 'The Shopping Bags'. One episode was on scooters. I wasn't paying attention to which one was the best. Just tell your wife to watch that show for a few weeks. It's bound to rerun. Besides, she won't need the thing until spring, right?

She is not a fat greasy biker chick. Plus it's too much power for what she needs.
Just a spring/summer cruise around kinda thing.

I LOVE scooters, they are the bomb. I drove one in Asia for a bit and it was a blast....

Vespa for style obviously, in terms of reliability it is hard to say...

Oh, man. I can't believe how many chicks I see on bikes these days. Well, more specifically, during the summer days. You and I must live in different cities. Calgary's got plenty of hotties on two wheels.

CMG Online [Canadian Motorcycle Guide Online] has a number of scooter tests along with the motorcycle tests. It's free but you may have to register. They test the Honda Ruckus and the Silverwing, the Suzuki Burgman and the Yamaha Majesty. She may need 400cc to cruise on the highway. Go to the Archives section.

Get the 400cc, anything less is dangerous on major streets, I testdrove a 50cc and a 150cc Vespa in the summer and never again will I touch a scooter.

I agree with the 400 cc. I think it's safer to have a little extra power.

I would also encourage anybody getting a scooter or motorcycle to take the safety course. I took it about five years ago when I re-entered motorcycling. It gave me some confidence and skill to face the traffic. It 's also a cheap way to find out if you really want to do it.
