Glad you started this thread. If there is a new roof to be had for $500 I want in! ($500 being the deductible). Let me know if you have any luck!

Be careful, this is often the start of the down payment scam.

I think it would be a "you need a new roof, give us a downpayment and we'll do it for you" type of thing. Obviously the scammers never return.
Thats all I can come up with. I have noticed a number of new roofs in our area lately though and had said to my wife a few weeks ago that we should look into it. I will ask some of the neighbours as well.

There could also be something where they tell you your insurance company approved it, and they start the work. Then the insurance company doesn't approve it, and you get left having to pay for what they did.

It means some insurance companies consider sending out an adjuster an opened claim with expenses being paid out (paying the adjuster). So if it turns out they don't have hail damage they sent an adjuster out for nothing and you could lose a claims free discount. Depending on the insurer, that could be hundreds of dollars.

My whole neighborhood has redone their roofs in the last five years.
All covered with hail damage. In fact when we got insurance they asked what postal code I live in and we pay extra due to higher risk of hail.

What? How can one part of Calgary be more at risk than any other part? Everything from Okotoks to just north of Red Deer is considered "Hail Storm Alley".

I bet the difference is mainly the type of people/roofs in the neighbourhood versus the actual hail risk. I can definitely see some neighbourhoods having a higher percentage of people calling and insisting on an adjuster every time it hails, and then making a big fuss about getting a new roof.
If they can figure out those neighbourhoods in advance, they can charge more by postal code to cover the increased cost.

I think we all live on the same street. I had the company in question check my roof out. They emailed me photos of the damage and gave me a number to call if I want to move forward. Not too sure what to do at this point.

9 yr old house - shingles over garage turning up and cracking - any chance this is hail damage or simply craapy shingles that have seen their better days?

Could be either? Sounds more like sun blistering? Check the felt.....if greyed out not hail damamge but if black dots then hail damage. Also should have some small pock marks on shingles.

I live in Bridlewood, and can't remember that the hail was that bad! I have had a couple of guy's come by in the past little while, and all have the same line, " time for a new roof! we noticed that your shingles are warn and cracked from a distance" then the scare tactic of ice damming, leaks etc... My roof was replaced 1.5 years ago!! if there are guy's in the area doing roofs, they will try to drum up business using the fact that your neighbor had damage to their roof, even though they are just doing routine maintenance.
