Default Boston in August

I'm headed to Boston in August for a wedding. It turns out we have an extra day before all the festivities start so I'm looking for things to do. The Red Sox are on the road so that's out. My wife isn't really into history either so that's out. We're leaning towards checking out the aquarium. Does anybody have any other recommendations of stuff to do in Boston?

I'm a history buff but my wife, like yours, isn't so much. Mine loved the black history tour and the othe cool history there. She may surprise you.

The Cheers bar is cool - the actual bar that the show is based on, not the chain knock off one.

One of my favorite breweries just opened up a beer garden on the Greenway that sounds pretty cool.

You can still take a tour of Fenway, there is also a bar under the bleachers in center field you can check out after.

The aquarium was a nice visit, we did a behind the scene tour and my wife did a meet and greet with the seals.

We checked out the science center, it was ok but the aquarium was better.

You could also do a Harpoon Brewery tour, we did the tour on a week day at like 11 and it wasn't busy so the tasting part was great since there was no wait for samples.

Qunicy Market is always worth a gander. My wife loves taking a Booze Cruise at night around the harbour.

And if you happen to be out in Brookline (suburb of Boston - 20 minute drive), this is the best sandwich place on the planet.

Just hike around uptown, cross over to East End and get some of the best Italian food there is. Lots to just see walking around, its a beautiful city.

I'll second the Fenway park tour. Definitely worth it no matter how much you like baseball.

There is also a free walking tour of the historic sights put on by the parks service. I don't know where it starts but we just kind of stumbled into it and found it quite interesting.

If you're only there for a day you'll be more than entertained by simply wandering the streets. It's such a compact city that everything is within a short walk.

Harvard and MIT are also cool. Just because of what they are.

Do you have a hotel booked yet? We stayed at the Onyx right downtown. They have cruiser bikes you can borrow for free and welcomed us with complimentary ice cream sandwiches (the best ice cream sandwich I've ever had). When I forgot my shaving cream they just gave me one. There is even complementary wine for an hour every evening. Such a refreshing change from other hotels that nickel and dime everything.

We arrive on a Wednesday and leave Sunday. The wedding stuff starts Thursday night so we have Wednesday evening and most of Thursday to hang out. I might try to do that Fenway park tour. We're staying at the Harbourfront Renaissance because that's where the wedding is and we got a discount on the room.

I suggest doing the Freedom Trail. Its a nice way to see the city.

2.5 mile walk through their downtown hitting all the major historical sites.

I did the Fenway Tour before a game when I was there. Loved it.

Boston is awesome. One of my favorite US cities.

Boston Common is a really cool park. I fluked into it one morning nursing a hangover on my stag on the way back to the hotel, just as the sun was coming up. Very pretty. You could actually trick your wife into some history there because it has a ton of monuments and plaques scattered through out the park.
