The NHL also discussed with GMs whether or not they would reveal each team's protected list ahead of expansion draft. GMs said No. (con't)

So unless it changes, appears league won't make public each team's protected list in June.

Secret expansion lists. Per club policy, terms were not disclosed. Loser-point inflated records. Our fans don't want salary cap info.
Down Goes BrownVerified account @DownGoesBrown 1h1 hour ago
Gosh, it's almost as if GMs worry about shielding themselves from criticism and scrutiny far more than what's actually best for the league.
Down Goes BrownVerified account @DownGoesBrown 1h1 hour ago
It doesn't have to be this way. A league with real leadership wouldn't have this problem. But… well, here we are.

They may not make them public officially, but I am gonna bet that the lists "somehow" end up in the public domain.

They might not make them public, but each hockey fanbase has a pretty good idea of what their protection lists are going to be anyways.

All thats going to happen is the “insiders” will break down the lists anyways and without confirmation there will be some wild speculation. The league could just save us the trouble but hey, then Kypreos, Elliotte, Mackenzie and the such wouldn’t have as much to do around the draft

Maybe. But even for us we don't know for sure if someone like Brouwer will be protected or Lazar. I'm sure every team has players that are ''on the fence''. The nosy bastard in me wants to know for sure damnit!!

How would you feel if you played for the Oilers and you found out that Chia used all 11 slots to protect McDavid, but Vegas decided to take a pass on everyone else on the team?

LeBrun later clarified... the GMs made it clear they don't want the lists public. No final decision has been made by the league
Pierre LeBrunVerified account @Real_ESPNLeBrun
@Real_ESPNLeBrun but again, no final decision on this, although certainly league got the GMs stated feedback on it
So of course the GMs don't want the lists public, it could potentially damage relationships with the players.

The NHL is so secretive to their own determent. They don't care about the media and publicity they could generate by disclosing information regarding player salary finance and stuff like this. This is free marketing for the league since the media would be able to milk content out from mock expansion drafts with a public list.

I think I know Edmonton's list:
Forwards x 7:
McDavid
McDavid
McDavid
McDavid
McDavid
McDavid
McDavid
Defense x 3:
McDavid
McDavid
McDavid
Goalie:
McDavid
... they don't even have to protect McDavid lol.. Idiots.

I think it is important to note that it says "ahead" of the expansion draft.
Mentions nothing about the lists being revealed after the draft.
I'm not sure how much I care about knowing in advance. It'll heighten the suspense if the expansion draft happens and we don't know who is protected.
Then they can release the lists after.

Not surprised at all with this decision. Seems like it would save face with players not being protected. Save them some shameful and awkward conversations.
