Yeah he was. Nice that he got some championships and a long run of regular season success.

Sad news, yet somehow fitting that he would pass away in the year that they seem destined to miss the playoffs for the first time in a quarter-century.

Sad news, as others have said he was great for the team and the city of Detroit. I still have a memory of him embracing and kissing Steve Yzerman as the Wings passed around the Cup.
 RIP Mr. Illitch.

RIP to a great franchise owner.
Although I dunno about the community thing. He took public dollars from a poverty-stricken city for their new arena. But that's not his fault. The city gave it to him.

Too bad the Tigers didn't win. Seems like everybody loves the guy.
Have a Detroit fan that is kinda happy about it. Didn't think they would do a proper rebuild until he passed away

I read somewhere that it was his wish to win a World Series with the Tigers before he died. That's why he pumped a lot of money into the team in the recent past.

This is really awful news. Mike Ilitch was a great owner for the Wings, and it's a real shame he won't be able to see the new arena.

Of all the weird-ass posts you have made, this might be the weirdest one yet.

Very sad news. The Illitch family is one of the faces of hockey ownership, and are very proud owners of the wings. One of my favorite hockey memores is Steve Yezerman passing Mike the cup. The man lived, breathed, and worshiped hockey. He was responsible for some of the greatest teams that were put together in NHL history.

I don't know if the's in the HOF yet, but he definitely should be.
