Flames defeat Avalanche by a count of 6-3
So, I guess this thread has some use, after all.
They won!

Bump, because the old thread was closed.
Can we talk about the game now?

Full marks for all Flames tonight. I'm still giddy about that 5 on 3 kill. I hope Backs is going to be alright.

I missed all of the crazy goals in the second, but up until that point I thought Monahan was making a lot of good plays. Was he as good the rest of the way?

came to discuss symbolism but found the game thread locked?!?
anyways, always happy to get the 2 points against a team that is lower than us.
is it ok if I put a "W" in the win column as an official game thread symbol?

Freeway's quote was from the locked PGT, but I still wanted to respond.

They've been in a playoff spot since the completion of the December 6th games. Tomorrow will be the 22nd straight day they will wake up in a playoff spot. After the December 10th games were completed, they were in sole possession of the division lead.

We don't have a giant lead in games played now. I thought the standings at the start of the month were deceiving

Further, the Flames have more wins and more ROW than the Kings, Ducks, Avalanche, Coyotes, Predators, Jets, Stars, Canucks and Oilers. Only 2 of those teams are barely head of them in the divisional standings and only the Sharks in the division have more wins. Even with game-in-hand only the Predators could potentially knock the Flames from a playoff spot.
All while playing more games in less time than many of the teams around them, and far more road games than home. The OIlers were crying about how "tough" their pillowy soft schedule was before Christmas. They've been off for 4 days no and won't play until Thursday when the Flames will have traveled to and from another country, played a game and be playing their second in 3 nights.
There is no "technically" about where they are. I'd say it's more "technically" they are lower in the standings than they should be. If not for a horrid start before Gulatzan made adjustments (which Brent Sutter never learnt) they'd be first in the division and challenging for the conference again.

Better perspective yet:
At the completion of the game against the Rangers on Saturday November 12th (six and a half weeks ago), the Flames were a disappointing 5-10-1 with a -20 Goal differential.
Since then, they've gone 14-6-1 with a +14 goal differential. That's amazing

The fact that the Flames are only two points behind the Oilers after the terrible start they they had and the hot start that the Oilers had fills my heart with Joy. Soon my children we will kick those stinking losers off of a cliff into the abyss where they belong.

That's an 113 point pace. They're simply on a tear

It is a marathon not a sprint. I think that old adage that the 2nd 20 game stretch gives you more insight to what a team is.

Brodie was really good tonight.
Wideman's breakout pass set up the first goal - which changed the tide of the game.
Pretty dominant overall. And that's back to back games now where they played weak opponents but, instead of playing down to their level, the Flames steam-rolled them.
So nice to see,

Nice to see the Flames take care of business against the Canucks and Avs. Will be even nicer if they can beat the Ducks on Thursday night.
