Wouldn't that be the Out of Town threads?

We can just use one, instead of "threads".

Why do we need to put everything into just one thread?

If something is noteworthy, it deserves its own thread? If it isn't, but somebody creates it anyway, it will quickly die away.

I'm happy to see Laine do well. My sympathies lie with small-market Canadian teams (except Edmonton, of course), and I hope Laine helps bring some success to the Jets. I'd far rather cheer for Laine than for the NHL's anointed superstars McDavid and Matthews.

I'm bitter the Flames didn't move up in the draft lottery. So no.

Although secretly I think Laine is a such a stud.

IMO this thread isn't needed, if something deserves its own thread then make it. If not, use Out of Town.

Here is an interesting question for this thread:

Will Detroit make the playoffs again this year?

Right now they hold the record 25 seasons in a row, 1990–91 to present. The Blues also hold the same record, 1979–80 through to 2003–04.

IMO, it would be a pretty special story line to set the record for consecutive playoff appearances the last year in the Joe Lewis.

Personally I think they can do it. They are in a weak enough division to pull it off.

RE: They are in fact not the record holders. See post 22 for the correction of my mistake.

This is one of their weakest teams throughout the streak so its not gonna be easy

I hope they pull it off though, its easier to cheer when they're in the East where they belong

Until Detroit actually doesn't make it, they're going to make it. Never bet against them. Last year they were supposed to miss with their weakest roster in years and a new head coach, still made it.

Man seeing the canucks and oilers as top two teams in the division makes me wanna puke.

Detroit is going to have to be a scoring by committee team in order to make it. Vanek is off to a great start and Larkin has proven that he can step up down the stretch. that said, the problem will Detroit is that they do not have a star player who will put the team on his back night in night out.

Detroit's goaltending has some question marks but they should be able to keep their team in games. Jimmy Howard, for example, played excellent last night. He was a big part of that win.

Also it is important to keep in mind that the, Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres
Florida Panthers, Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators, and Toronto Maple Leafs, are not super strong teams themselves.

It might be close like last year, but I still think they make it.

At some point Holland is going to have to bite the bullet and endure a rebuild. It's almost impossible to build a contender without top-5 picks.

His biggest problem has been bad trades and signings over the last five years or so. No GM coasts on reputation the way Holland does. Seriously, name one shrewd move he has pulled off in recent memory. Larkin at the draft was great, but that's probably thanks to the scouts.

Blast from the past.

The New Ice Age from 1997/98. It's pretty interesting looking back at the footage and access from almost 20 years ago. Everyone looks soooo young.

Thornton, Al Coated fretting over possibly not being able to select Daniel Tkazchuk.... gasp!!

Very cool stuff.

It makes me sick too. But remember, most agreed that the ideal position for the Canucks/Oilers was to be bad enough to not be in last place and not get a good draft pick ,but close enough a playoff spot and just miss out. Ideally 9th-10th place.

This is all just part of the process.

This didn't get enough love when it happened, so.
