Icon31 Setoguchi makes King's opening night roster (1yr, 2 way, $575k NHL $45k AHL)

http://www.ocregister.com/articles/k...uchi-last.html

Quote:
Left wing Devin Setoguchi skated with center Anze Kopitar and right wing Dustin Brown on Monday, which indicated he made the Kings’ opening night roster as the longest of long shots after arriving at their training camp last month on a pro tryout basis.
Quote:
“There’s still an awful lot of work to do,” Kings coach Darryl Sutter said. “Obviously, ‘Gabby’s’ injury took a top skill guy out of the top end of our lineup, so we’re trying to fill that. Based on his camp, (Setoguchi) gets that opportunity.

“I’m excited for him. I like to see guys like that bounce back and do well and, hopefully, he does bounce back. It’s strictly going to be a day-to-day, game-to-game thing. That’s clear. For me, it was no different evaluating him than it was players that we needed to be better than they were last year.”

Good for him. Glad he's earned a spot and some personal redemption. Good luck

Lombardi: "Kopi you signed a huge deal, we have no money left, you have to play with two plugs in Brown and Setoguchi."

Jon Rosen @lakingsinsider
The Kings have signed Devin Setoguchi to a two-way contract. Don't have financial information as of right now.

Jon Rosen @lakingsinsider
Team source: Setoguchi earning NHL/AHL minimums as "an opportunity ... to re-establish his NHL career and prove he belongs here every day."

Brown was overrated even in the 'prime' of his career. Can't believe he was first to hoist the Cup on the Kings 2 Championships. Kopitar was given the captaincy too late in my opinion and Brown prob should have been bought out a couple years ago.

Happy for Seto but I hope he doesn't help the Kings do anything good this year.

Man I hate that team.

Having one of those plugs making $5.875 million a year until 2022 doesn't help either.
Happy for Setoguchi.

The Mayor John Hoven @mayorNHL
now
Devin Setoguchi's new one-year contract with the LA Kings is for league minimum, $575K at NHL level ($45K AHL).

You usually don't see NHL players accept $45k deals in the AHL.

It seems strange to me with the AHL numbers. But with injuries playing a factor, he's making just over $7k a game in the NHL.

45K is pretty awful pay. For a pro athlete type human being.

I didnt hate him on the Flames, I just didnt think he was helping the team at all.

This contract really is the 'Last Chance Saloon' for Seto.

He might look at Europe if he gets sent down. You make way more than 45k there

Maybe, or he outright retires.
