Wideman has to go first. What about those Wideman-Boston rumours? Maybe something happens there.

There's a kid still that needs to be signed with most of the cap space we have left.

Seidenberg + Grossman in Wideman + Smid out

No room for Russell

I could live with that quite easily

I was wondering about Seidenberg. Always seemed like a solid defenseman. Guess last year wasn't a good one?

this is like tanguay + sarich for jones + O'Brien

you're exchanging a couple headaches for a couple equally flawed and potentially worse headaches

really hope neither guy is here for anything more than a PTO.

Disagree for the simple fact that Wideman+Smid is $8.75M where the other 2 vets come in under $3M total (guess) to fill the same hole and are easier to bury if they are outplayed by a young player

The Avs trade the Flames took on more salary and term for worse players because they were slightly younger and bigger bodies

Seidenberg makes wideman look like the flash. Shot knees. Wideman can skate circles around him, plus actually make a pass and get a shot through.

Preseason filler, ok. Otherwise, no thanks.

It's like the Flames are going to sign every UFA defenseman except for Russell and Nak.

I don't hate this as much as everyone else.

I think Seidenberg has a good defensive mind, one that helps his team win games. He has been a big part of some good teams. It's also possible for players to have bounceback seasons.

It's too bad that he's become so injury prone in his older years. I hate injuries.

I really wish we knew what was happening with Smid.

Pass on Grossman and Seidenberg. Hoping the D-core looks something like this:

Brodie-Gio
Jokkipakka - Hamilton
Russell - Nakladal
Engelland/Wotherspoon

I think Seidenberg is done. He was solid before his last bout with injuries but now his body is knackered.
