Icon48 McDavid no points in 2 WC games. The next Daigle?

Since before he was even drafted, McDavid has been the new posterboy for the NHL, painted as a generational player, etc. Publication after publication has been whipped up PROJECTING his greatness as opposed to what he's accomplished. A few examples below

Cox - The Star, March 4th 2016: https://www.thestar.com/sports/leafs...light-cox.html

Quote:
Connor McDavid will be on the team, which means the Young Guns will have one of the game’s best offensive players in their lineup. Maybe the best.
Quote:
If World Cup organizers are true to their promises, the 2016 event will be followed by another tournament in 2020. By then, McDavid will possibly have won a scoring championship and a Hart Trophy and maybe, just maybe, will have lifted the Edmonton Oilers into a playoff position, which would be his greatest feat of all.
Quote:
Sit him at the kids table for next summer’s World Cup if you want. One suspects he’ll have the attention of the entire tournament before it’s over.
NHL.com, Sept 2nd 2016: https://www.nhl.com/news/connor-mcda...up/c-281549564

Quote:
Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby is thrilled Pittsburgh hockey fans finally will get a chance to see Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid play in person.
Quote:
"I think the one [player] that would stick out is Connor McDavid," Crosby told the Penguins website Friday. "… To be able to see him, someone who plays usually out west and is as good as he is, to be able to see him up close, that young team is going to be pretty fast and should make for pretty entertaining hockey to watch."
McDavid was speedily named captain of Team NA without much of a resume in the NHL. In fact, the Calder runner-up hadn't even played a full NHL season and lost out to other notables such as Nathan MacKinnon and Aaron Ekblad who would have been more than suitable wear the 'C'.

McDavid hasn't a single goal, nor point in 2 WC games, while being gifted priority minutes on the top line and the PP. So the question remains, is McDavid the next Daigle?

Not a great sample size, but I like the current trend.

Well you might be on to something...0 points in 2 games extrapolated over the course of an 82 game season is (if my math is correct) ZERO points!

I'm pretty sure the idea was to make this thread on HF, not here. It's just not very effective trolling here.

I'm torn between trying to be rational and arguing that hes jumping the gun based on two meaningless Exhibition games and my burning desire for him to be right.

Cant do it. Not yet. Sorry man. Not to McJesus, the greatest player the NHL has ever known or ever will know.

In 2 years they'll be tearing down Gretzky's statue and replacing it with McDavid and then re-instating the #99 so McDavid can wear it.

I would not mind seeing him as another Daigle, but who are we kidding? McDavid will be a top scorer for years to come.

No. But one thing is for sure, I don't think he is as good as many of the media pundits have projected him to be. Through two games he has not been all that noticeable.
