It was a sunny afternoon back in 2004 when I first joined the CPHL. I was a young buck fresh out of teachers college looking for work in the metropolis of Corner Brook, NL. With all the time in the world, I managed to set the standard for trading in the league and must have broken some records along the way. Taking over the GM duties of the Florida Panthers that set a CPHL record low in points (still stands), I wheeled and dealed the team into cup contenders falling just short of the Championship back in 2006. In just 2 short years, the team saw a complete turnaround due primarily to the countless hours spent on MSN messenger tricking vet GM’s and taking advantage of all the new ones. Those were the days…
I would take a break from the CPHL when his life changed and I managed to secure a job in the Arctic in 2008. Full time work and a new girlfriend meant I couldn’t spend as much time as I once could. The CPHL and I parted ways leaving the Florida Panthers as the best team in the CPHL.
Fast forward to 2011 when I took a trip to Calgary, I met up with the likes of JiriHrdina and KevinGuy for drinks and talked business. After lengthy negotiations, I signed on the dotted line and become the new GM of the Columbus Blue Jackets. In his very first season at the helm, I was back to my old ways making deals and winning games. I would take the Cliff Fletcher Award in my first year back as top GM in the CPHL and would take my team all the way to the cup finals only to lose to GM Ravi and the Ducks.
I could never quite find my way back to the top of the league and at the same time life started to take over. I now had a wife (tricked her too somehow) and 2 young children, priorities took over and I once again left the CPHL on May 7, 2015.
That brings us to today.
Over the years I have gathered a reputation of being a very active trader, a shred negotiator, and have been known to cross the line from time to time (see “The Jerk” posts circa 2008). These things tend to stick with people and it’s hard to forget. There have been highs and there have been lows, but at the end of the day the CPHL is a fun game to play with good people playing it.
In my 10 years or so of playing this game, I am now on my 3rd team, not unlike a GM in the NHL. That is one of the great parts of being in the CPHL, it does its best to mirror the NHL and make the game as ‘real’ as possible. I haven’t always gotten along with the commissioner team but I do like those guys and I see since I was in the league last, they have added Ravi to the fold; he gets my seal of approval.
I no longer have messenger, and I don’t plan to use it for this tenure. I will be checking the forum daily and will get back to everyone on any inquires ASAP. I will be doing an overall assessment of what is on this team before making any trades. The previous GM did a good job and it is by far the best out of the 3 teams I have taken over.
I look forward to playing this game and enjoying it. I am treating this as a fresh start. I am older, wiser, fatter, smarter, more handsome and respecting the fact that the commish team trust that I will be a good GM and am coming in with the right mindset.
Thanks for having me back.

Dave make sure you do the roster review this week per the sticky thread, including adding any positions to your players. PM me (at Wild GM) if you have any questions about it.

Well, the pacific just got even easier.
Looking forward to seeing what your theme for 2017 will be. May I suggest a team made up of only NHL players bought out. good luck getting them all!

Welcome back Dave
great news for the league as I've always admired your ability to rebuild and shakeup up a team in a weekend.
Never understood what some of the issues were but I've always enjoyed trading and reading your post. Part of it for me always came down to how your attribute a tone to a post. And I've always enjoyed your sense of humour and not beating around the bush.
I'll remember to put my ringer tone for Sharks phone line on silent (jk)

Welcome back. Have fun with the Sharks. I am looking forward to there being a couple dozen trades coming out of San Jose in the next few weeks.
