Default Shaw To Buy Wind Mobile for 1.6B

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/repor...ticle27791628/

This deal makes sense for Shaw who had tried to enter the wireless market. Why re-invent the wheel when you can just buy an existing carrier? I bet Shaw will upgrade Wind's network to compete with the Big 3.

One can only hope another competitor in the pool will drive down cell phone rates

No doubt they want to shift their business more towards an expanding industry (wireless) and away from a dying industry (cable).

Please don't turn into the Big 3+1, please don't turn into the Big 3+1.

Customers will flock to you like birds if you offer something that doesn't cost an arm and a leg per month.

Cable is dying a slow death and so is their home phone. The only growing segment in their portfolio is internet. Entering wireless makes sense to Shaw and more competition is always better for us.

It'll be interesting to see how Shaw will handle the old cheap Wind contracts.

Pefect. My contract expires with Telus in January.

I'm done paying $100 a month for 4 GB of data. Whether that's with Telus or Shaw or whoever.

Yeah, that's working out real well for us in the TV and internet sectors.

lol @ people thinking Shaw will come in and be super cheap and competitive, undercutting the Big 3. Have you been to their website for cable, internet, and phone? they're more expensive than almost anyone in canada.

One bright side is that the phones will probably be able to access all the Shaw wifi hotspots. Now would probably be a good time to renew a contract if you can though before they 'adjust' their rate plans 'to better serve you'.

Gotta think Shaw is laughing all the way to the bank here. Rogers paid them $700 million for the spectrum that they now got back from Wind for essentially nothing.

Who is running things at Rogers anyways?

/Listens to people thinking Shaw will drive down prices

/Looks at 3 services already provided by Shaw, where they compete with the same big 3 already

/weeps
