As some of you may or may not know, for health reasons I pretty much never eat any kind of meat. I rarely eat chicken, never eat seafood, and absolutely unequivecally do not touch pork or beef (especially hot dogs). Until last weekend.
I have a soft spot for cheese (especially the nacho dispenser squeeze cheeze) and have been known to eat eggs and chili topped with cheddar cheese until my intestines swell up to the point of bursting. Never could I have predicted what I found on 17th after an evening drinking lager at the Ship.
I had a friend of a friend recommend this "gourmet hotdog" place down on 17th, and was told that it was unlike anything the city had ever seen. I decided to check it out and see for myself, if for no other reason than it's licensed, and you can sit and dring 40's while inhaling veggie dogs.
I can't remember the name of the dog I had, but it was EPIC.
It was a large hot dog, wrapped in bacon, deep fried, covered in chili, with a slice of fried ham on top, covered with a fried egg, covered in squeeze cheese. There might have been more stuffed somewhere in the bun, but I didn't notice. I even ate that bad boy with a knife and fork.
You guys HAVE to check this place out, it's UNREAL!!!!

So is the no meat thing to be healthy in a hippi kind of way, or because it affects you differently than most people?
Just curious

Having seen tron on more than a few drinking binges, I can attest that healthy hippie reasons probably aren't the main concern, though I could be wrong.

Oh my god that sound frickin' awesome!!
We used to go to Coney Island in downtown Detroit all boozed up for hot dogs and milk. They had these giant dogs covered in chili and onions and cheese. Just what you need after a night of pounding American beer! Mmmmmmm.
For some reason I always regreted it in the morning.

It's the same dude that used to give out (sell?) hot dogs at the Night Gallery on Sundays.
I've never been to this restaurant but a yoga-going health nut I know said the same thing tron did -- that the hot dogs are awesome.

I had a Tubby Dog from them a few days ago and unfortuantely, I don't have quite the same glowing things as Tron to say. Which is not to say it was bad or anything, but at the end of the day it was a just smokie loaded wtih chili and sauteed onions. I love hot dogs and it was a good one, although super messy to eat. Paying $5 for a hot dog is pretty common to anyone who golfs a lot, so the sticker shock wasn't too bad.
I'd stay away from the T-Rings (onion rings), the batter was too "spongy" & bread-like for me, and retained too much oil.

Are you looking to get slapped?
No, it's got a lot more to do with seafood and beer. I was told to give up one or the other, and to avoid combining the two.
Guess which one I chose.....

It's across from the Phil's Ice Cream and by the Baskin Robbins, 10th St SW I think? White Awning with red cartoon lettering.

There's also the new place that opened up on 4th St. Just across from that dormant condominium project called the Hot Dog Emporium. They make specialty hot dogs.
The Mediterranean is actually pretty good. A hot dog with feta cheese, artichoke hearts and a few other things...

This place was featured on Shaw TV earlier this month, I'm not a big hot dog fan but I might check it out one of these days...

Yeah, it makes for one hell of a one-two punch - Tubby Dog and then a couple scoops of ice cream across the street. Pass the Lipitor....

Just the sound of this makes me want to puke, so digusting.
Does it come with a free Heart Attack?

It sounds like it would taste really good but I don't think I could eat more than two bites of it before I started getting nauseous from the grease overload.

Damn, sounds like my kind of place. Not to sure about the whole egg thing but you know.
As per the whole not eating meat, if I couldnt eat Chicken, Ground Beef, Costco Hamburgers, and Costco Steaks, I would probably shrivel up and die from starvation.
Maybe instead of going to Koryo for lunch, I will head to 17th Ave.
Thanks for the suggestion.
