Flames Flames looking at Sean Burke?

Roger Millions @RogMillions
#Flames GM Brad Treliving on Sean Burke. "Close friends, and Sean looking to get into some Mgmt position. Unclear if there is a fit here"

Tweet likely in response to this story:

Quote:
Former Coyotes executive Sean Burke said he is pondering a position with another NHL club and expects to make a decision quickly.

Burke was reportedly in discussions with both the Toronto Maple Leafs and San Jose Sharks at one point, and there has also been speculation tying him to Calgary and former Coyotes assistant general manager Brad Treliving, who is now the Flames GM.

Burke said he has already turned down a pair of offers from teams that still wanted him to fill a dual role as an executive and an assistant coach, but he would not specify which team he is still considering.
"The role I would be taking on is something I really would enjoy," Burke said Wednesday. "There's not a lot of questions left about it. It's just a matter of getting it ironed out. If it is the right fit it will probably happen in the next week."

Wow, I know there has been quite a bit of demand for Sean Burke... that would be pretty sweet to add him to the Flames.

Keep in mind it sounds like he has no interest in being a goalie coach.

I'm not going to speculate about the position it could be for... because I have no idea what he brings to the table that we don't have.

But if he fills a vacant role, I'm all for it!

Between Brad Pascal, Craig, Treliving, and BB I don't think we need another exec. TO doesn't even have a GM right now, they should pick him up.

Maybe Ken King could use some assistance in the releasing information on the stadium project.

Goalie coach to GM! What could go wrong?

Could it mean that Conny is changing positions? Maybe assistant coach or something?

Yeah, where would he fit? The Flames already have a huge management group with Brian Burke, Treliving, Conroy, and Pascal, where do you slot Sean Burke?

Seems like a smart well respected guy but I'd imagine he's looking for a top job, if not now then soon.

Maybe Burke is retiring soon and this is planning for that?

Not to say Burke or Treliving would take that spot, but maybe they are going to re-organize their positions/titles.

Could be a director of player personnel role or something, management doesn't have to be GM or AGM

Director of player personnel or whatever would be an ideal position, A gap filler between coaches and management. He could potentially be an overseer and mentor for Sigalet with being hands off but doing the whole Burke mentoring Treliving thing.

Maybe another professional scout? Maybe Mike Burke is planning on moving on.

So now we have Burke nepotism, just like the Sutter era all over again.

Loved Sean Burke when he was a goalie, and he seems to be a really good guy as well. I don't know what capacity he would fill in Calgary but I'm happy to see him carving a really impressive career in the NHL.
