[News] Moscow Spartak Hires German Titov as Head Coach
Former Flame, German Titov is hired by Moscow Spartak as a new Head Coach. Spartak was out of KHL competition this season due to financial difficulties. Former Russian-born NHL-ers, Kozlov and Zhamnov are also involved with the team both in coaching/executive capacities. Titov and his family have been living in Calgary since his retirement from NHL in 2003.

If my results with Titov in NHL 96 are any indication, he's going to do very well

Titov had his moments as a Flame in particular when he was part of the TNT line.

Titov was maybe my favorite Flame at one point. I don't know why - I just liked him.
I didn't know he stayed on in Calgary. I am a little surprised he'd go to Moscow after living here for so long. What did he do? He must've been coaching at some level to get this gig.

Titov's last NHL team was Anaheim. He played in KHL for one or two more seasons after retirement but returned to Calgary and settled down. He continued working with Calgary Hitmen for a while helping Kelly Kissio with coaching young Russian players in the system. For the past two years, he has been a Head Coach for another KHL club.
I always thought of Titov as a very smart and hard-working player. Jagr said that he really liked having him on the line. My best memory of Titov was his assist on Iginla's first goal as a Flame. Oh, and his NHL nickname was - "Tits".

Cool news story. I'm with GioforPM, he was one of my favorites during that time period. Must have been his sweet name since I was still pretty young back then.
Also curious what he was doing in Calgary all these years to just get picked up out of the blue to coach in the K. Interesting.

That's a hell of a commute, assuming he still had a Calgary home base.

I doubt there was much of a commute. He just went there and coached leaving his family in Calgary for 8-9 months, I suppose. KHL season is a bit shorter than NHL, as they try to free up more players to choose from for the World Cup.

Yeah I would imagine with his kids growing up in Calgary that they are pretty firmly entrenched Canadians now.

I've always wondered if there's a Canadian Titov too?
