Default "Distinctly Canadian" gift ideas?

I would like to buy a gift for an American colleague who did me a big favor (was my attorney who represented me through the U.S. citizenship process).

I would like to get him a gift to thank him and commemorate the occasion.

Something professional, and something Canadian (given the immigration bend to the favor).

Cost to be <$500, ideally.

Thanks!

What about a quality framed print of a Group of Seven?

I like this idea - just don't know who or what - i.e. something or someone he would connect with.

Maybe just a Team Canada jersey?

According to every gift store in every airport, people love freeze dried salmon. Unrefrigerated fish in a bag.

A Canadian Beaver. I've never paid for one, but the cost should be under $500, though shipping might eat into that.

The most Canadian thing in the world is to apologize for no reason, but that's hard to gift wrap.

How about a Hudson's Bay blanket? Distinctly Canadian and practical.

A Canadian Gretzky Jersey would be sweet.

Or else just a bag of ketchup chips.

I'm not sure if this works with your location, but our local (Calgary) snooty cheese shop has a Canadiana cheese basket...

http://janicebeatonfinecheese.bigcar...ct/gift-basket

Shipping in Canada is not a problem but it might not work internationally.

Perfect. You can send that, then apologize for it being so ugly.

What exactly about it is ugly?

As simple as those stripes are, it's actually one of the most iconic and respected Canadians designs out there. That blanket design has been in production for over 200 years...which for a country as young as Canada is quite neat. The real blankets are really nice quality (with a price to match). Funnily enough though, as much as they represent Canada and HSBC, they are made in England.
