Default Update: Pinder headed to Fan590 Morning show?

Quote:
As it turns out, incoming Sportsnet The Fan 590 morning man Dean Blundell will get a new sidekick instead of holdover Andrew Walker from the present morning team on the radio station.

The identity of Blundell’s sidekick is not known, as the station is still conducting auditions. The source indicated it would be someone from outside the Toronto market and someone with a strong sports background to cover Blundell, who showed in a trial run on The Fan 590 last year that overall sports knowledge is not one of his strengths.

One of the candidates may be one of the morning men on Rogers’ Calgary sports radio station, Dean (Boomer) Molberg. A decision is expected by the end of the week.

I for one would shed no tears if Boomer were to leave.

I don't mind Boomer and Pinder in the morning, they are pretty entertaining for the most part.

Boomer yes. Pinder brings nothing but flat-brimmed hats and bad music.

Yeah, I really wouldn't either. So sick of hearing him pick a horrible "artist of the day", play the crap music, sing badly along to it and then act like a bunch of people told him they HAD to buy it on iTunes after hearing him play it.

Pinder on the other hand, I think is great.

This is laughable. Molberg would have to start pretending that he knows something about, and that he actually likes, basketball. Good riddance.

Strong sports background = not Boomer

Relatively solid Flames background = Boomer

Boomer doesn't seem the Toronto type. As far as overall sports knowledge goes, isn't Boomer basically NHL and CFL? Or is that just dictated by this market? Is he an MLB and NBA guy?

Also agree with an earlier post, why does Toronto sports media need to fill their rosters with Western guys?

Good. Worse thing about Boomer is he can't tell time, how often does he go past the break? Then the next guest doesn't get enough time. It's all about the current argument he's having beating a dead horse.

I'd miss Boomer if he were to go. He atleast tries to add some fun to the discussion. Some days it's hit and miss, but he's trying.

24/7 sports radio can be boring as hell and the movement towards more in depth analytics just means more radio where the talking heads look for ways to fill program hours by talking about numbers/percentages and taking 45 minutes to discuss a 10 minute topic.

I'd much prefer some comedic interjection (lame as it mig be at times) nto a radio show, especially in the morning.

I don't understand why everyone hates Boomer and Pinder in the morning? I for one would be sad to see him go. They make me laugh every morning, and I personally could care less what music they play seeing as I'm not listening to the Fan for the music.

I would think the local programming content is dictated to the morning show

i.e. lots of Hockey, some CFL.

I agree, however, Boomer openly hates soccer and basketball on the show. Both of these sports have franchises in TO.

I would be sad to see him go, I do enjoy him, rhett and pinder in the mornings.

Funny just the other day I heard him talk about how people from the Toronto market would always talk patronizingly about how his career aspirations must be "move to Toronto eventually" and he shot down the idea.

I doubt he hates NBA or Soccer etc..., its probably his perceived personality on the show (i.e. its all part of the show....).
