Jan 26 Practice - Hiller starts tomorrow. Sven, Wolf, Spoon likely scratched.
Gaudreau and Giordano are not on the ice after playing in the ASG. We may not see meaningful lines based on today's practice.

No Giordano or Gaudreau on the ice this afternoon. Not surprising seeing as how they played yesterday. #Flames
|
all 3 Adirondack players called up today are on the ice:
Quote:
Kristen Odland @KristenOdlandCH
David Wolf wearing #45, Tyler Wotherspoon #26, and Sven Baertschi #27
|
Glencross and Smid still not on the ice. Longer Smid is out the greater chance Wotherspoon gets into a game eventually.

Glencross and Smid also not on the ice this afternoon. #Flames

Baertschi and Wolf subbing for Gaudreau on that line with Hudler and Monahan. Wotherspoon subbing for Giordano. #Flames

Other #Flames lines:
Raymond-Jooris-Colborne;
Bouma-Backlund-Jones;
Bollig-Stajan-Byron.

Hiller starts tomorrow per Millions
Lines: (keep in mind Gaudreau was not there)
Baertschi/Wolf - Monahan - Hudler
Raymond - Jooris - Colborne
Bouma - Backlund - Jones
Bollig - Stajan - Byron
based on Baertschi/Wolf/Wotherspoon were used as fillins for Gaudreau and Giordano I would say they are unlikely to play tomorrow but that could change

Looks like Glencross kept Bennett some company before the main group skated

Glencross, I'm told, skated earlier in the day alongside Bennett. #Flames

It's interesting, Hartley rarely puts a call up directly into the lineup. I would have to think that Raymond, Bollig, and to a lesser extent Byron are looking over their shoulders a little. Personally, I think Baertschi is better (and even more physical) than Raymond.
Bollig should get a good push from Wolf who is more than just a guy who can fight, but more of a wrecking ball, which is what I had hoped for from Bollig this year. I remember that Wolf really needed to work on his skating from development camp, so hopefully he's up to snuff for this fast paced team. Bollig has tried to hard to keep up, but always seems a step slow. I hope Wolf isn't the same way.

With both Hiller and Ramo having extended rests between the Ortio run and the ASG break, why not start with Ramo against buffalo?
He's been so underplayed so far, and I'm not sure its justified. I'd say both are equally "rusty" now, so put in Hiller?

i just want which ever goalie will win us the game, as i'm sure we are going to play down to buffalos level tomorrow and will need a goalie to steel the two points.

I see Hiller getting a stretch of wins, which against the Sabres, Oilers and Wild shouldn't be too hard.

That seems to be Hartley's MO with callups though.
Let them get a couple practices in and some familiarity with the team.
Kind of like it, gives them a great opportunity to succeed.
Plus I have tickets Thursday and hope to see them all then.

This is Wotherspoon's 3rd stint with the Flames. Will he get into a game this year? They must be planning on it, it just hasn't worked out to put him in. If they aren't planning on playing and just using him as an emergency, wouldn't it be better to have Potter watching from popcorn row while Wotherspoon logs lots of ice time in the AHL?

Not directing this at you, it's just a very common point on here.
First, yes, I think most people agree that logging big minutes in all situations, with lots of responsibilities in the A is much better for development than rare minutes and lots of popcorn time with the big club.
However, it is a long season. Bringing up a player is a big deal for them. They practice with the team, hang out with the team, get face time with the coaches and management, etc. And that is huge for their development too. Also, having a game or two off during the regular season, and being able to watch the big club play, can be likewise very beneficial.
While I am definitely in the 'Wotherspoon should be in Adi where he can gets lots of minutes' camp, I would still think that a week or so with the big club, even though he doesn't get into any games, would still be hugely beneficial for him and any prospect.

Eh, Hartley has been prone to changing his mind on game days before. I bet at least one of them gets in.
