Icon42 Update: Blues sign Brodeur to 1 year contract ($700k + bonuses)

St. Louis Blues @StLouisBlues
Blues President/GM of Hockey Operations Doug Armstrong announced that goaltender Martin Brodeur will practice with the team starting Friday.

St. Louis Blues @StLouisBlues
Armstrong: “Marty has agreed to come in and practice through early next week. We will address the media at Friday’s practice at Scottrade.”

update:
Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
No surprise as STL and Brodeur close in, should be one-year plus bonuses. Glad to see he's getting a shot.

Just retire, Marty. This is getting sad.

Nice, glad he found a place to practice. Hopefully it leads to a contract for him.

One of the best goalies of all time and he has earned the right to do whatever he wants with his career.

Is the guy out of money or something?

One of, if not the best ever at his position. Made millions over his career. Scraping for a PTO? Just retire man.

No Marty, step away from the Blues. Step far away from the Blues.

His wife did take him to the cleaners when he screwed her sister.

If the wants to be like Gordie Howe and play till hes 50+.. let him.. he just loves the game of hockey.

This'll hopefully screw the blues playoff chances if marty is playing..

He's the last of a dying (dead?) breed of goalies with his playing style. Don't know why people are seeing this as a bad thing. It's a treat to watch him play regardless of where his ability is now.

Such a smart goalie... I think he's got enough to put up some spot quality starts still.

C'mon Marty. Retire while you're still on top. No way a future HOF'er should be playing a backup role (if that). I guess it show's how much he loves the game, and how important it is to him to be around it. But figure out another way to get involved. This is just sad.

If teams still thought he was good enough to help them, he wouldn't still be desperate for a sniff of a PTO at the end of November.

Not sure why any team would want to import this kind of drama.

Elliott is likely out for a couple weeks or more, so the Blues just need a warm body for insurance

Normally I am sympathetic when a man gets taken to the cleaners by his wife but not in cases like this.

Doubt he can. He sucked at 42.

Then he should have retired years ago. He was a mediocre backup last season.

Yeah, and rightfully so, but couldn't she only get 1/2 at most? He's got to have substantial dough still.

Ignore the haters, Marty. Do what you want. If you want to play in the NHL again, this is definitely a good step.

I'm assuming this move might mean that Elliott's injury is pretty severe.

He's trying to get to 700 wins supposedly. Good luck to him - don't know if it'll happen this season, if ever though.
