Default Road to the Winter Classic

Is anyone else watching this? I hadn't seen a thread about it and it seems to have received less promotion than the previous editions. EPIX is handling it this year instead of HBO although the producer of the show did work for the original HBO version. This year is the Hawks and Caps. So far it's decent after 2 episodes. Pretty much the same as HBO although the narrator isn't quite as good and the music is so-so. Both Barry Trotz and Joel Quennville are pretty likeable coaches and both teams are fun to watch. Interesting note for episode 2: One of the teams that the Hawks play against is the Flames.

There have been so many outdoor games that the roads are getting pretty bumpy now. Time to quit calling them Classics. Outside of a money grab I just don't see the value in these games anymore.

I agree but I think this thread is about the show.. which is fantastic.

Yeah, Liv Schrieber's narration was awesome on the HBO show and to be honest it was one of the main differences I first noticed when I watched this year's version. The new narrator isn't bad but he is definitely a downgrade.

The content has been great, I love the behind the scenes stuff..

Also the clip of the trainer for the Blackhawks was pretty touching. He seemed like one of the guys who knew the dressing room code. That was a guy who absolutely loved his job you can see it in his eyes. So sad as he was very young...

Didn't know it was on but will definitely check it out. Thanks for the heads up. I agree the games have kind of lost their luster a bit but the behind the scenes stuff is always great.

First year I've started watching it. I'm surprised how quickly they produce it. Episode 2 had the Flames game and a nice piece on the 'Hawks assistant equipment manager who just passed away.

Sportsnet runs new episodes every Tuesday at 10:00pm. They have also been showing reruns of the first 2 episodes randomly over the holiday break.
