Roy would be better off as a forward.

Roy was injured with no hope of being healthy before camp ended

Mancina was mainly brought in to be an extra tender for the Young Stars tournament

This injury was at a bad time for Roy. He was playing for a contract and didn't get to play. Another year in junior won't be terrible for him though. Culkin had to do the same thing, play his overage year.

Roy has to be very disappointed as he had a solid camp last year. Hope to see a dominating overager season...

Eric Roy was offered a contract earlier in the summer (Flames had to do it to keep his rights)

Flames did the same thing with Culkin last summer also, he declined the contract, went back to junior and then ended up signing with the Flames this year.

Roy is likely hoping to do the same thing.

I was kind of hoping that Padakin would make a case for a contract.

There is still a chance he could sign an AHL SPC. He is an import and overager for the Hitmen and numbers aren't in his favour. He knew that last year when he signed with Donbass in the KHL but unfortunately the team dissolved.

He did by the sounds of things impress some in camp so very possible he's offered an AHL contract. Can't see a need for him to be called up to the NHL Flames this year.

Padakin didn't impress enough for me to believe he would get an AHL contract. Have him play one more year in the WHL or maybe ECHL and see if he improves.

That's going to be tough for him to play WHL this year again. 3/ 2 imports and the Hitman as well as 3/2 over agers as well. He was pretty good tho. Give him an AHL contract and send him to Alaska for a year or two.

Our affiliate is Colorado now. Too bad it isn't Alaska as his first pro North America experience was actually in Alaska.

I believe there are 5 overager as well. 5 guys with 1994 birthdates currently on the team.

Ahit , that's right it is Colorado now. I don't know the answer to this one then. He seems to have a good nose to go into the tough areas.Depth is a good thing.

He plays a well needed position in the Flames system. He's a RW that shoots R. We don't have many dedicated RW prospects (Hanowski is the only one right now that can play in the AHL), and we have few R shots.

This is how the potential (remember, POTENTIAL. As in these players are in the system and have the potential to play for the AHL at some point this season) AHL Flames lineup could look by position:

*Edited as I forgot Poirier
(Positions/Shot information taken directly from the Flames Prospect website)

He does fit a need that we have, especially if we do start to lose LW's like Baertschi and Gaudreau to callup's to NHL or if Hanowski ends up being a full time NHL Flame.

You are correct, he falls under the 20 year old stipulation of the CHL-AHL agreement by 17 days. I looked at his years in the CHL and only saw 3. Oops. Thanks.

Flames website is mistaken. Poirier was drafted and plays as a RW. A lot of sites see he shoots left and take it for granted he plays LW without looking up his background.

Jooris has also been playing RW in 2 games in Penticton on Granlund's wing. He had some success there and I could see it becoming a permanent change for him.

Oh yeah, Kulak has a January birthday so unless he returned to the WHL as an overager, his junior career is over, and Klimchuk can't play in the AHL this season. He only has 3 years of junior played. Those 5 games in 2010/11 don't count.

The NHL draft rankings had him as LW and his draft day video from TSN has him as LW. The Gatineau Olympiques also listed him as a LW. Not trying to start anything but if you look up his name, almost all sites except Hockey's Future lists him as a LW. His draft articles all list him as LW.

Jooris played RW a lot in Abbotsford. Not a surprise he would find success there.

Klimchuk would have to go back to juniors if he doesn't make the big club. His 5 games at 15 don't count as a season. The cut-off is 25 games.

In order to make the 4 seasons without being 20 one would have to have been granted exceptional status at 15 to play in the CHL. Those guys pretty much all go to the NHL before 19 so it's something that bascially just doesn't happen.

Spezza is the only I can think of that spent time in the AHL at 19 after 4 years in junior.

Prior to the 2013 season, Calgary did not have a right wing prospect that stood head and shoulders above the rest to be considered the number one right wing prospect. After the 2013 NHL Draft, Calgary can definitely consider Emile Poirier as their number one right wing prospect.

Poirier generally plays right wing, I have no idea why he's listed everywhere as a left wing. In all the interviews he gives he says he's a right wing, and in his highlight reels he's on the right too.

Incredible speed!

Solid numbers, lots of PIM, physical, intelligent, and good size! I actually really like this pick!

He also said in his interview he plays RW

All you need to do is watch his highlights.
