Thumbs down Sidney Crosby Arrested in Ottawa (hoax)

Didn't expect to see this headline...

http://www.calgarysun.com/2014/09/03...sted-in-ottawa

Quote:
Reasons of his arrest were unknown, but appear to be driving related.
Sources say Crosby was taken to the Ottawa police headquarters on Elgin street for fingerprinting and a mugshot.

Crosby's in Colorado. Whoops.

He should sue the Calgary (Ottawa?) Sun. What embarrassing "reporting".

Well, part of that report is right. Police HQ is on Elgin St.

I'm just surprised it's Ottawa in the news again (even though false). Never knew it could be such a party town to get into trouble in.

It was probably Henry Burris that took the test. We all know he can't pass.

Ba dum dum.

This is just foreshadowing to Crosby being credited a point while being on the bench this year.

Please contact me about this belief (randy.sportak@sunmedia.ca).

I'd love to know why you paint so many people with such a broad brush.

I'm not going to defend what happened with this (if anyone has a screen grab or the like so I can read the story that ran, please forward to me), but "never bother to report factual occurrences" is rather inflammatory.

I'm curious why you'd say that. I know on many occasions I've spent hours - sometimes to the detriment of my family life - chasing stories to confirm things.

By the way, please let me know what Canada's "elite media" is.

I have a question for you:

You spend a lot of time checking facts, and I believe you and give you credit for that.

What happens if you dont? Are there stringent regulations? What are the consequences going to be for the Ottawa Sun for running this story?

I don't live in Calgary anymore but I always found the Sun sports department to be pretty good and I appreciate your work. The rest of the paper, not so much maybe because of their fast and loose right wing take on their stories. Still this is a editorial decision and it doesn't necessarily mean their writers are bad.
