Im here doing sports updates for my radio station and along the sports wire all we have are these Nascar reports and updates. i know it's Daytona and all, but 200 000 people watching cars they cant drive doing left turns for three hours??? I just dont get it. I would honestly watch billiards or bowling on TV rather than Nascar. I just dont get why its so big south of the border.

i don't get it either, it's boring as hell to watch, but TSN says that when they show nascar, it gets better ratings than NHL and CFL games.

I am a big auto racing fan, but I really don't understand the fixation the American public has with NASCAR. I tuned into the last 10 laps and that's all you really need to watch during a restrictor plate race.
Sadly, I think most NASCAR fans watch it for the crashes.
Personally, I prefer Formula 1, which brings the most skilled drivers in the world together to compete on the most challenging road courses in the world. Can't wait til the season kicks off in Australia in a couple of weeks.

I 'm pretty much like you.I did watch a bit of the Super Bowl of Nascar but I was also working so I didn't focus till they replayed the ...crashes of course.
It is quite a skill to stay out of trouble.
I would love to travel the complete F1 circuit that would be my perfect six month vacation. But the carrousing might kill me.

I too tuned into the final 6 laps to see what all the fuss is about. Those commentators were going CRAZY, I still don't get how they can get so excited. It does seem very tough to stay out of a crash there, I thought cars would go spinning out with how close they got to each other.
I still don't get the hype about it...

I personally don't get it. My buddy however, loves NASCAR. It's probably his favourite "sport". He said once you get into it and get to know all the drivers it really adds to it. It's like a big soap opera, with all their little feuds and rivalries. He knows all the details about the drivers, cars, race teams, sponsors, etc. Hardcore.
I still can't get around the fact that it's a bunch of cars driving around in a circle 500 times.

Truthfully, I find NASCAR far, far more entertaining than F1. F1 racing often seems to be little more than a parade at 300KPH. Very little passing.
That said, I'm not big on racing altogether. I used to like Cart, but I havent bothered with racing much since Greg Moore died.

I started to watch NASCAR a few years ago, I remember the first race I watched Dale Earnhardt was killed. I do watch it, I can't sit through an entire race but like a lot of people I do like the crashes and find it amazing that people can walk away from these wrecks with no injuries. I think the main reason I started to watch was because of my job at the time, I was a Snap-on dealer, that the company was involved in Nascar and a lot of the machanics I dealt with liked the fact that they could talk to me about the race.

Growing up 20 minutes away from Bristol Motor Speedway, NASCAR was breathed down my neck. I respect it, I'm just totally indifferent about it. I don't think you can classify any auto race as a straight on sport because there are so many other factors that go into it than the athlete's performance, but I do respect it.

You would be surprised how athletic some of the drivers have to be, especially in F1. The G forces that a driver has to endure are extremely tiring on the body, therefore these guys have to be in excellent condition. Working out is a big part of an F1 drivers duties, since he has to make sure he is in physically peak condition so his body and mind doesnt tire out over a race.
I would be willing to bet that F1 drivers are considerably more athletic than almost all baseball players.

I agree. I didn't really explain what I meant real well. In racing there are a lot more factors that must be accounted for--engine performance, aerodynamics, tire pressure, etc.--than purely the athlete's performance. In other sports, these external factors are kept to a minimum. That's why I meant I classify it separately.

Ernest Hemingway said "There are only two true sports - motor racing and bull fighting. Everything else is just a game."
It's true that F1 drivers are among the fittest athletes in the world. McLaren says Juan Montoya is "fat" and needs to give up the cheeseburgers, but he looks like he has about 1% body fat!

I'm down in Phoenix for the races this weekend. I'm extremely happy that they have moved to knockout qualifying. Really looking forward to that.

NASCAR is weird, they went away from their true fans in the south. They went away from great tracks to cookie cutter tracks in areas that they shouldn't be in the attempt to broaden the horizon.
Then they told drivers that they were no longer able to touch another car and thousands of fans stopped watching and going to races. They allowed them to "take the gloves off" last year and this year are back into playing with mittens on.
I like NASCAR but not a die hard fan, I've been to Talladega and the circus of all the idiots is more fun than the race. 30-40 cars going 195-200 mph all within a half of a second of each other and 2-4 inches away from each other is intense. One screw up and someone can take out the whole field.
I like short track racing better than the super speedways, more bumping, more skill, just a better race.
I've been to INDY 500 and it's fun, but IMS is a terrible track to watch a race. you only get to see a short bit of the track. The NASCAR cars are LOUD compared to the INDY cars.

I hope his old ass puts her non drivin ass into the wall.
I hate her, she's a "pretty face" in nascar and is a terrible race car driver

he hasn't been in a car in 20 years. She'd probably mop the floor with him.
