Max Reinhart
I just thought I would open up some discussion on the forgotten son, Max Reinhart.
Wandering through random threads and conversations, you never hear anything said about the kid.
Max Reinhart put up an outstanding season in the AHL last year. Yes, he was moved to the wing after his rough first season. But at 21 he has put up the most impressive point totals of any Flames prospect in the last 10 years.
For those who aren't following him he finished the season at 21-42-63.
Leading the Abbotsford Heat in scoring. His PPG is one of the best of any Flames prospect that has come through the system in the last decade under 25 years of age (yes, better than Granlund, or Backlund or Sven).
The kid plays a gritty two way game, hits, battles, plays on the PP and PK and has the ability to play center.
Anywho, just thought I would start some discussion. I see a lot of posters putting Knight ahead of him, but in my opinion, this is a mistake. I look forward to seeing him making his transition to the NHL, hopefully this season.

I'm also a fan of his even though I havent followed him specifically in the AHL, I have always watched him closely during his stints as a Flame. I really love his tenacity although I'm still a little concerned with his NHL skating ability, overall foot speed and balance. Maybe it was just me but at the end of last year while with the Flames, I felt he was always falling down or being shoved off the puck quite easily. When that improves and im pretty sure it will, I definitely want him to be a regular in our lineup

This coming season is the year Max needs to show he belongs in the NHL. I think his experience in the AHL will help him. If he doesn't make it this season I wouldn't give up on him. Some players takes longer to adjust. He is a skilled guy and can play offensively or defensively. If he makes it this season, I think he will be playing in the 3rd line.

I like his game however if he is going to make it as a Flame it will have to be on the wing, too many centres ahead of him.

i don't care what forward position, but there is something to his game that always makes me think he'll be a NHL'er.
I am very much rooting for him to be a surprise to make the team out of camp or shortly after and stick.

Max does most things well and nothing poorly. He's not huge, though.

Definately NHL pedigree. Kind of reminds me of a Sutter (not sure which one). Jack of all trades, master of none. Good offensive upside, but not one I would have labelled as top six.
Ideal career role would be 2nd edition Craig Conroy. 2-3 line tweener. I think my favorite edition of conroy, outside of 2004, was when he centered Moss and Glencross, and all 3 players scored around 40points on the 3rd line.
That's where I see Max fitting in.

I've seen him a t Ranchmans before. I hope his 6'1 200 has grown because he was in the bottom of the threatening echelon. by that, I mean he looked like a nice, 18yo, kid. no issues

Here's a thread I made back in May discussing Reinhart and Granlund. A poll was added to the thread also.

If Reinhart has a solid camp, I he believe should make the team.

Just one correction Wastedyouth: Reinhart actually played most of the year at center with Granlund on the left. However, Ward was big on playing centers on the wing for several games to expand their abilities, which would give them a better shot at making an NHL team. So I think that's where you got that idea from, but he played most of the year at center.

The Byron signing cut Reinharts chances of starting on the big team in half. He will likely be near the front of the line for injury call ups but will start again in Addy.

Really? I swear when I was watching it was Granlund in the middle with Reinhart on the wing on that line.
I could definitely be wrong, its been 4ish months since I watched a game.

At points during the season that was the case, yes. But that was only for about, say, a quarter of the season. I think the thought there was that Reinhart's brain makes him an outstanding option to play the middle, while Granlund's adjustment to the pros would make him better suited just doing his thing on the left for most of the year.
Who took the faceoff of the two was also influenced by which side of the ice the faceoff was.
Either way, you could've put Max as the backup goalie and he would've had an outstanding year. He was that good.

Agreed. Kid did it all. That's why I started the thread. He's one of my favourite prospects.

His upside is 3rd liner. Imo the Flames should find a spot for him unless he's terrible in training camp.
